Oscars 2017: 7 Films Move Forward in the Makeup and Hairstyling Race

Seven films have made the shortlist for Oscar consideration in the Makeup and Hairstyling category. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced the list and revealed the Academy’s Makeup Artists and Hairstylists Branch have been invited to attend a special presentation on Saturday, January 7, 2017 that will feature 10 minute clips from the seven films still in the running.


Three of the seven films will be nominated for the Academy Award in the Makeup and Hairstyling category.

The Academy also confirmed 336 feature films are eligible to be considered in the Best Picture category at the 89th Academy Awards. In order to be considered, a film must be at least 40 minutes long and must open in a Los Angeles County theater for at least a seven day run prior to December 31st at midnight.

The full list of nominees in all categories will be announced on Tuesday, January 24, 2017. The 2017 Oscars will take place on February 26th with Jimmy Kimmel confirmed as host. The Academy Awards will air live on ABC from the Dolby Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center in Hollywood, CA. The broadcast will begin at 4pm PT/7pm ET.
