Showtime Reacts to Philip Seymour Hoffman’s Death

Philip Seymour Hoffman’s death has shaken his friends, family, and legion of fans worldwide. The 46 year old actor died of an apparent drug overdose (heroin was discovered in his apartment) and his family issued a statement shortly after his death saying how devastated they were over the loss of their “beloved Phil” and asking everyone to keep Hoffman in their thoughts. Lionsgate followed with a statement expressing their condolences (he was working on the Hunger Games films) and celebrities took to Twitter to express their reactions to the news and offer sympathy to Hoffman’s family.
 
Hoffman was executive producing and starring in the Showtime series Happyish at the time of his death, and the network also released a statement following his passing:
 

Philip Seymour Hoffman was one of our generation’s finest and most brilliant actors. He was also a gifted comedic talent. It was a great privilege and pleasure to work with him and we are all absolutely devastated by this sudden loss. Our thoughts go out to his family at this very difficult time.
