Warner Bros Pictures, Amblin Entertainment, and Village Roadshow Pictures’ Ready Player One has pulled in more than $500 million worldwide. The action adventure film directed by Steven Spielberg just passed the $500 million mark after opening domestically on March 29, 2018.

According to Warner Bros, $200 million of the overall gross comes from ticket sales in China. The film has already taken the #10 spot on the highest grossing U.S. releases in China and just entered the market this weekend in Japan.

The $500 million box office figure also includes more than $120.6 million domestically, $21 million from the UK market, and $16 million from moviegoers in France. Russian ticket sales contributed $12 million to the overall box office and $17 million came from Korea.

Ready Player One is based on Ernest Cline’s bestselling novel. Cline co-wrote the script with Zak Penn. Director Spielberg, Donald De Line, Kristie Macosko Krieger, and Dan Farah produced the critically acclaimed sci-fi film. Adam Somner, Daniel Lupi, Chris deFaria, and Bruce Berman executive produced the box office winner.

Tye Sheridan leads the cast that includes Olivia Cooke, Ben Mendelsohn, Lena Waithe, T.J. Miller, Philip Zhao, Win Morisaki, Hannah John-Kamen, Simon Pegg, and Mark Rylance. The behind the scenes team includes director of photography Janusz Kaminski, production designer Adam Stockhausen, editors Michael Kahn and Sarah Broshar, and costume designer Kasia Walicka Maimone.

The Plot: The film is set in 2045, with the world on the brink of chaos and collapse. But the people have found salvation in the OASIS, an expansive virtual reality universe created by the brilliant and eccentric James Halliday (Mark Rylance). When Halliday dies, he leaves his immense fortune to the first person to find a digital Easter egg he has hidden somewhere in the OASIS, sparking a contest that grips the entire world. When an unlikely young hero named Wade Watts (Tye Sheridan) decides to join the contest, he is hurled into a breakneck, reality-bending treasure hunt through a fantastical universe of mystery, discovery and danger.
