‘Rent’ Cast: Vanessa Hudgens, Brandon Victor Dixon, Kiersey Clemons Join Fox’s Live Musical

Fox has confirmed the main cast for its 2019 live musical event, Rent. Among the actors committed to helping bring the Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning musical to life on Fox are Vanessa Hudgens (Second Act, Grease: Live), Emmy nominee and Tony Award winner Brandon Victor Dixon (Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert), and Kiersey Clemons (Hearts Beat Loud).

The live musical production will also star singer/songwriter Jordan Fisher (Hamilton), singer/songwriter Brennin Hunt (Nashville), R&B/Pop performer Mario (Empire), recording artist Tinashe (Dancing with the Stars), and performer Valentina (RuPaul’s Drag Race). Fox also confirmed The Greatest Showman‘s Keala Settle is going to be singing the musical’s iconic song, “Seasons of Love.”

Rent will air live on Sunday, January 27, 2019 at 7pm ET. It will air tape-delayed on the West Coast at 7pm PT.

Fox’s production of Rent has Marc Platt (Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert, Grease: Live, La La Land, Wicked), Adam Siegel, Vince Totino, Scott Hemming, Marla Levine, and the estate of writer/composer Jonathan Larson executive producing. The behind-the-scenes team includes the director of the original New York Theatre Workshop and Broadway productions, Michael Greif, as the director in charge of stage direction. Alex Rudzinski (Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert, Grease: Live) is on board as the live television director.

Kristoffer Diaz is writing the live television adaptation of Rent. The original Broadway production’s costume designer, Angela Wendt, and casting director, Bernie Telsey, are handling those jobs for the live production. Al Gurdon is the lighting designer, Stephen Oremus is the music director and producer, Jason Sherwood is the set designer, Sonya Tayeh will be Rent‘s choreographer.

Rent Cast and Characters:

  • Kiersey Clemons as JOANNE JEFFERSON, Maureen’s girlfriend and an Ivy League-educated lawyer.
  • Brandon Victor Dixon as TOM COLLINS, the computer scientist who returns to New York after being expelled from MIT.
  • Jordan Fisher as MARK COHEN, an aspiring filmmaker who serves as the show’s narrator while filming the lives of his friends.
  • Vanessa Hudgens as Maureen Johnson, the outgoing performance artist who’s not afraid to take on the establishment.
  • Brennin Hunt as ROGER DAVIS, a struggling musician and Mark’s roommate and best friend.
  • Mario as BeNJAMIN COFFIN III, Mark and Roger’s former roommate-turned-landlord, who is after their rent.
  • Tinashe as MIMI MARQUEZ, the dancer who struggles with addiction.
  • Valentina as ANGEL DUMONT SCHUNARD, a young drag queen and street percussionist who embraces life and lives it to its fullest.
