RT Features and A24 confirmed Robert Pattinson has signed on to star in The Lighthouse. The fantasy horror film will be directed by Robert Eggers who’s no stranger to the horror genre. Eggers directed 2015’s critically acclaimed supernatural horror film The Witch which earned him the Best First Film and Best First Screenplay awards at 2016’s Film Independent Spirit Awards.

Pattinson joins Willem Dafoe who was previously announced to star in the production. Filming is expected to begin on The Lighthouse this spring.

According to the casting announcement, The Lighthouse “is a fantasy horror story set in the world of old sea-faring myths.”

Robert Eggers and Max Eggers wrote the script and RT Features’ Rodrigo Teixeira and Lourenço Sant’ Anna are on board to produce. Parts & Labor’s Jay Van Hoy and Youree Henley are also attached as producers. A24 picked up the worldwide rights and will distribute The Lighthouse domestically. In addition, New Regency is involved as a co-financier.

“I am extremely happy to be working with RT, A24, and Parts & Labor again. Along with New Regency, they are providing me and my collaborators with the support and freedom to make this film the way it needs to be made. It’s a privilege,” stated writer/director Robert Eggers.

“Pattinson is one of the most talented actors working today,” said RT Features’ Rodrigo Teixeira. “We are excited to work with him and Eggers, a singular filmmaker whose unique vision we support. Our collaboration on The Witch was flawless and we look forward to re-uniting along with our partners at A24, Parts & Labor and New Regency.”

A24 issued the following statement about the production: “We are beyond excited to be partnering again with Rob Eggers, a true visionary and one of the great filmmakers of his generation. This new script blew us away—it creates a totally unique and ambitious universe and manages to somehow feel scary, suspenseful, wondrous, and beautiful all at the same time. We can’t wait to work with Rob and his team, and our partners at RT Features, Parts & Labor, and New Regency, to help bring this story to life.”

Robert Pattinson recently starred in Good Time and The Lost City of Z, and just finished up filming Claire Denis’ first English language film, High Life. Other credits include Life, Queen of the Desert, Maps to the Stars, The Rover, Cosmopolis, and the Twilight films.
