Nirvana, Cat Stevens, The Zombies, and KISS made the short list of nominees for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame next year. More than 600 Hall of Fame members, historians, critics, and musicians will vote via secret ballot to come up with the 2014 inductees, with the 2014 induction ceremony set for April in New York City.

According to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, in order to be eligible, “an individual artist or band must have released its first single or album at least 25 years prior to the year of nomination.”

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is also letting music fans have their voices heard, with public voting now open through December 10, 2013 at 5pm ET. According to the official rules, “the public can visit www.rockhall.com/vote, www.rollingstone.com, and www.usatoday.com to cast votes for who they believe to be most deserving of induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The top five artists, as selected by the public, will constitute a “fans’ ballot” that will be tallied along with the other ballots to choose the 2014 inductees.”
