The cast of Freeform’s Shadowhunters took to Facebook to announce the show’s been renewed for a second season. The dramatic series is based on Cassandra Clare’s bestselling The Mortal Instruments book series and stars Katherine McNamara as Clary Fray, Dominic Sherwood as Jace Wayland, Alberto Rosende as Simon, Emeraude Toubia as Isabelle Lightwood, Matthew Daddario as Alec Lightwood, Isaiah Mustafa as Luke Garroway, and Glee‘s Harry Shum Jr. as Magnus Bane. The first season will wrap up with the final episode on April 5, 2016 at 9pm ET/PT.

Shadowhunters is executive produced by McG (Chuck, Supernatural) and Ed Decter (Unforgettable, Helix). Season one of the fantasy adventure series debuted as the #2 premiere on record for the network among adult viewers and is the fourth most engaging scripted series on social media “overall across all TV with over 17.7 million engagements,” according to Freeform.

The Plot: Shadowhunters follows Clary Fray, who finds out on her birthday that she is not who she thinks she is, but rather comes from a long line of Shadowhunters – human-angel hybrids who hunt down demons. Now thrown into the world of demon hunting after her mother is kidnapped, Clary must rely on the mysterious Jace and his fellow Shadowhunters Isabelle and Alec to navigate this new dark world. With her best friend, Simon, in tow, Clary must now live among faeries, warlocks, vampires and werewolves to find answers that could help her find her mother.

Nothing is as it seems, including her close family friend Luke, who turned out to be a werewolf, as well as the enigmatic warlock Magnus Bane, who has surprisingly become an ally in the search for Clary’s past.
