Winning the roles of the von Trapp children are Ariane Rinehart as Liesl, Michael Nigro as Fredrich, Ella Watts-Gorman as Louisa, Joe West as Kurt, Sophia Caruso as Brigitta, Grace Rundhaug as Marta, and Peyton Ella as young Gretl. The cast of the three hour NBC production also includes Audra McDonald as Mother Abbess, Laura Benanti as Elsa Schrader, and Christian Borle as Max Dettweiler.
Beth McCarthy-Miller and Rob Ashford are co-directing this adaptation of the 1959 Broadway hit. The story follows “a young woman who who leaves an Austrian convent to become a governess to the seven children of a naval officer widower.”
