Hulu, Stephen King, and J.J. Abrams Team Up on ’11/22/63′

Stephen King’s 11/22/63

Stephen King’s bestselling novel 11/22/63 will be making the transition to TV in a deal King and J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot Productions just struck with Hulu. 11/22/63 is set to become a nine-hour event series on Hulu, with the project receiving a direct-to-series order. Hulu and WBTV are teaming up on the series and Abrams, King, Bridget Carpenter, and Bryan Burk are attached as executive producers.

Carpenter’s been tapped to adapt King’s book.

“J.J. Abrams and Stephen King are two of the most celebrated storytellers of our time, and we are excited to be working with them and Warner Bros. Television to bring this unique take on one of the most seminal historic events of the twentieth century to Hulu. 11/22/63 already resonated with audiences as a best-selling novel, and we are looking forward to bringing the riveting story to the screen,” said Craig Erwich, Senior Vice President and Head of Content, Hulu.

“If I ever wrote a book that cries out for long-form, event TV programming, 11/22/63 is it,” added author/executive producer King. “I’m excited that it’s going to happen, and am looking forward to working with J.J. Abrams and the whole Bad Robot team.”

And Abrams said, “I’ve been a fan of Stephen King since I was in junior high school. The chance to work with him at all, let alone on a story so compelling, emotional, and imaginative, is a dream. We are thrilled to be working with Hulu on this very special project.”

The Plot:

11/22/63 is a thriller in which high school English teacher Jake Epping travels back in time to prevent the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. But his mission is threatened by Lee Harvey Oswald, his falling in love and the past itself … which doesn’t want to be changed.
