Disney announced they’ve signed on 13 year-old Storm Reid to star as Meg Murry in A Wrinkle in Time. Reid joins a cast led by Oprah Winfrey as Mrs. Which, Reese Witherspoon as Mrs. Whatsit, and Mindy Kaling as Mrs. Who. The film’s based on Madeleine L’Engle’s bestselling book and was adapted for the screen by Frozen‘s Jennifer Lee. Selma‘s Ava DuVernay is directing and Jim Whitaker and Catherine Hand are on board as producers.
Announcing the casting, director DuVernay said, “After an extensive search that spanned multiple dimensions, we’re overjoyed to welcome Storm Reid to WRINKLE IN TIME as our beloved ‘Meg.’ Storm is a tremendously talented young actress who embodies the hopes, dreams and spirit of a character much loved by audiences worldwide for generations. I can’t wait to work with Storm as we chronicle Meg’s epic quest, alongside Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon and Mindy Kaling as Mrs. Which, Mrs. Whatsit and Mrs. Who. Tesser well!”
Filming’s expected to begin later this year.
Reid’s film credits include 12 Years a Slave, American Girl: Lea to the Rescue, and Sleight. She recently wrapped up work on A Happening of Monumental Proportions directed by Judy Greer and starring Allison Janney, Common and Bradley Whitford.
