Helix has been averaging 2.1 million viewers since its debut on January 10, 2014 and helped propel Syfy to #2 in the cable network race among viewers aged 25-54, so the news that it’s been renewed for a second season doesn’t come as much of a shock to those who watch the ratings. Season two’s 13 episodes will film later this year and debut next winter.

Helix has built one of our most loyal and consistent audiences in its first season on Syfy. The incredibly talented writing and producing team have crafted a thriller that consistently delivered suspense, twists and high quality drama. We look forward to growing this passionate audience in what promises to be an even more memorable second season,” said Bill McGoldrick, EVP, Original Content, Syfy.

Ronald D Moore (Battlestar Galactica, Outlander), Steven Maeda, and Lynda Obst executive produce the series with Cameron Porsandeh (the series’ creator) as co-executive producer. The cast includes Billy Campbell, Hiroyuki Sanada, Kyra Zagorsky, and Mark Ghanimé.

The Plot:

Helix is an intense thriller about a team of scientists from the Centers for Disease Control who travel to the high-tech research facility, Arctic Biosystems, to investigate a possible disease outbreak, only to find themselves pulled into a terrifying life-and-death struggle that may hold the key to mankind’s salvation or total annihilation. However, the lethal threat is just the tip of the iceberg, and as the virus evolves, the chilling truth begins to unravel.

Billy Campbell stars as Dr. Alan Farragut, leader of the Centers for Disease Control outbreak field team called upon to investigate and control a potential outbreak. Hiroyuki Sanada also stars as Dr. Hiroshi Hatake, director of Arctic Biosystems and its mysterious viral research program.
