The action thriller The Gunman has found a U.S. distributor in Open Road Films. Open Road announced they’ve picked up the distribution rights from Studiocanal but did not announce when we can expect to see The Gunman, directed by Pierre Morel (Taken), in theaters.

The Gunman is based on Jean-Patrick Manchette’s novel and stars Sean Penn, Javier Bardem, Idris Elba, Ray Winstone, Mark Rylance, and Jasmine Trinca.

“We are thrilled to partner with our friends at Studiocanal, Joel Silver, and the entire team behind The Gunman,” stated Tom Ortenberg, CEO of Open Road Films. “Sean Penn is certainly one of the most talented actors of our time and it’s very exciting to be working with him in this groundbreaking action role as well as with fantastic filmmaker Pierre Morel who brought audiences Taken and The Transporter franchise.”

The Plot:

In The Gunman, Sean Penn stars as a former special forces soldier and military contractor suffering from PTSD. He tries to reconnect with his long time love, but first must go on the run from London to Barcelona and across Europe in order to clear his name.
