Peter Jackson’s first film of The Hobbit trilogy, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, has completed the journey to the one billion dollar mark at the box office. That number includes $301.4 million rung up domestically combined with its $700 million international take, and now makes The Hobbit the 15th film in movie history to have reached the billion-dollar mark.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey was directed by Peter Jackson and stars Martin Freeman, Ian McKellen, Richard Armitage, James Nesbitt, Ken Stott, Sylvester McCoy, Barry Humphries, Cate Blanchett, Ian Holm, Christopher Lee, Hugo Weaving, Elijah Wood and Andy Serkis. Part 2 – The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug – arrives on December 13, 2013 followed by The Hobbit: There and Back Again on December 17, 2014.
