The prime spot following the 2012 Super Bowl paid off huge for The Voice, with the premiere episode of season two earning the highest 18-49 rating for any entertainment program on any broadcast network in six years and overall the best numbers since the episode of Friends that aired following the big game in 1996. The singing competition also claimed NBC’s best numbers in adults 18-49 and total viewers for any entertainment telecast since the Friends series finale in 2004.

Comparing last year’s post-Super Bowl telecast, The Voice easily beat Glee‘s numbers by an increase of 40% in total viewers.

Per NBC, The Voice‘s second season debut had 37.6 million viewers which is a new series high (up 161% versus the show’s previous best numbers).
