Casting Call: NBC’s Looking for Dorothy in ‘The Wiz Live!’

The Wiz Live! Dorothy Casting Call

NBC’s just announced it’s holding an open casting call for the role of Dorothy in The Wiz Live! to be directed by Kenny Leon. The Wiz Live! will be a live musical television broadcast staging of the Tony Award-winning play that was adapted from L. Frank Baum’s The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. Harvey Fierstein’s writing new material for the TV musical airing on December 3, 2015, with Craig Zadan and Neil Meron (The Sound of Music Live!, Peter Pan Live!) on board as executive producers.

Details on the casting call, courtesy of NBC:

– The casting call will take place Saturday, June 6 from 10am to 2pm ET at Telsey + Co., 311 W. 43rd St., 10th Floor in Midtown Manhattan. Sign-in begins at 9am.

– Casting directors will be looking for a young African-American woman between 18-27 years old. She must have an extraordinary voice that can tell a story, as well as be mature with a youthful energy.

– Candidates need to be prepared to sing the songs “Home,” “Ease on Down the Road” and “Be a Lion” from the original Broadway production of The Wiz.
