Tina Fey had the honor of being the first presenter of the night at the 2014 Emmy Awards, with Ty Burrell taking home the first trophy of the evening. The win was Burrell’s second for Modern Family. Taking the stage, Burrell read a speech he said the kids on the show wrote for him. “I want to thank the kids on Modern Family for their incredible performances week in and week out,” read Burrell. The speech went on to talk about how the adults on the series always get nominated but never the kids.

Burrell didn’t thank his fellow nominees, but he did thank the Academy and his Modern Family co-stars. Overall, the bit got a smattering of laughs – far less than he earns on a weekly basis playing Phil Dunphy.
