Under the Dome and Extant Renewed for 2015

In a surprise move, CBS has renewed both Under the Dome and Extant for the 2015 summer season. Under the Dome will be returning for season three while Extant has earned a second season order.

Season two of Under the Dome drew in 11 million viewers who tuned in to see if there would actually be an answer to the origin of the dome and an explanation as to what’s up with that glowing egg. The end of the season found Big Jim going crazy and pledging to kill off all of the show’s main characters, and with the renewal announcement we’ll get to see whether he carries through on his mission to murder those he holds responsible for his wife’s death.

Extant with Oscar winner Halle Berry wasn’t a huge ratings draw, but apparently did well enough with its 8.64 million viewers to warrant a second season.

“We’re committed to delivering our viewers and advertisers year-round programming with a wide variety of storytelling,” said Nina Tassler, Chairman, CBS Entertainment. “We continue to see summer as a great place for unique concepts, innovative business models and passionate television audiences.”

Under the Dome and Extant will be joined on CBS’ 2015 summer lineup by the new drama Zoo and by a new season of Big Brother.
