Fox has officially renewed Wayward Pines, the thriller based on Blake Crouch’s book series, for a second season. Season one was a surprise ratings hit for the network, airing over the 2015 summer and earning the top scripted series spot among adults 18-49. Wayward Pines averaged 9.4 million viewers and actually increased in viewers over the course of season one. The cast of the first season was led by Matt Dillon and Carla Gugino and featured Melissa Leo, Toby Jones, Shannyn Sossamon, and Charlie Tahan.

Season two will consist of 10 one-hour episodes and will air in the summer of 2016. Filmmaker M. Night Shyamalan executive produces along with Crouch, Donald De Line, Ashwin Rajan, and Mark Friedman.

Wayward Pines was a huge hit for us this past summer. We were absolutely blown away by the mysterious and surprising world that Night and his team created, and the twisting-and-turning storytelling that drew viewers in from day one,” said David Madden, President, Entertainment, Fox Broadcasting Company. “Season Two is going to take the suspense, the vision of the future and the haunting character drama to whole new levels, and we can’t wait for our fans to continue that ride next year.”
