First 2016 Oscars Presenters and Performers Announced: Ryan Gosling, Tina Fey and More

The first batch of presenters and performers have been announced for the 88th Oscars to be held on February 28, 2016. Chris Rock’s hosting this year’s Oscars which will air live on ABC beginning at 4pm ET/PT. David Hill and Reginald Hudlin are the 2016 Academy Awards producers and announced the first confirmed celebrities, saying, “Each of these artists brings a wonderfully distinctive element to the Oscars stage. Together they represent the many thrilling ways stories can be shared about the human experience, and we’re honored they will be part of the celebration.”

‘The 100’s Ricky Whittle to Star in ‘American Gods’

Ricky Whittle (The 100, Austenland) will star as Shadow Moon in Starz and FreemantleMedia North America’s new dramatic series American Gods. The series is based on Neil Gaiman’s fantasy novel and has Hannibal‘s Bryan Fuller and The River‘s Michael Green attached as writers and showrunners. David Slade (30 Days of Night, Hannibal) is on board to direct at least the first episode and will executive produce along with Gaiman, Green, and Fuller.


Filming’s expected to begin in April 2016.

“I’m thrilled that Ricky has been cast as Shadow. His auditions were remarkable. The process of taking a world out of the pages of a book, and putting it onto the screen has begun. American Gods is, at its heart, a book about immigrants, and it seems perfectly appropriate that Shadow will, like so much else, be Coming to America. I’m delighted Ricky will get to embody Shadow. Now the fun starts,” stated Neil Gaiman.

Bryan Fuller and Michael Green added, “We searched every continent and country and all the islands in between for our Shadow Moon, and we are lucky to have found Ricky. Fans of the novel will find he has every bit of the heart of the character they fell in love with.”

The American Gods Plot:

American Gods been translated into over 30 languages and earned numerous accolades including Hugo, Nebula and Bram Stoker Awards for Best Novel. The plot posits a war brewing between old and new gods: the traditional gods of mythological roots from around the world steadily losing believers to an upstart pantheon of gods reflecting society’s modern love of money, technology, media, celebrity and drugs. Its protagonist, Shadow Moon, is an ex-con who becomes bodyguard and traveling partner to Mr. Wednesday, a conman but in reality one of the older gods, on a cross-country mission to gather his forces in preparation to battle the new deities.

Arnold Schwarzenegger is in charge of the new edition of The Celebrity Apprentice, with NBC just announcing both the celebrity advisors as well as the celebrity apprentices. Warren Buffett, Los Angeles Clippers owner Steve Ballmer, Tyra Banks, entrepreneur Jessica Alba, and Schwarzenegger’s nephew/entertainment attorney Patrick Knapp Schwarzenegger will serve as advisors on the eighth season of the reality show.


The eighth season of The Celebrity Apprentice will be set in Southern California. To date, the reality show has raised $15+ million for charity. The winner of season eight will be awarded a $250,000 donation to the charity of their choice.

The Plot: “New state-of-the-art headquarters in Silicon Beach — Southern California’s ever-growing technology hub — will house Schwarzenegger’s boardroom and the center of operations for the exciting and diverse line-up of business-savvy celebrities. Contestants will compete in challenging, business-driven tasks more focused than ever on technology and innovation, testing their ability to work together as a team while raising money and awareness for their favorite causes. Each episode will conclude with a compelling boardroom showdown, as Schwarzenegger evaluates the performances of all of the players before deciding which team wins the challenge and who will be sent home.”

First Look: ‘Trolls’ Movie Trailer

Yes, the Trolls movie is a real thing and DreamWorks Animation and 20th Century Fox have released the first trailer to prove it. The minute-long teaser doesn’t show any scenes from the film but instead has the weird little creatures happily dancing around before introducing a beast that eats one of them. Wow, that turned dark fast. Directed by Shrek Forever After‘s Mike Mitchell and Walt Dohrn, the voice cast includes Anna Kendrick, Justin Timberlake, Gwen Stefani, James Corden, Russell Brand, Icona Pop, Ron Funches and Kunal Nayaar. Trolls will open in theaters on November 4, 2016.

The Plot: DreamWorks Animation’s Trolls is an irreverent comedy extravaganza with incredible music! From the genius creators of Shrek, Trolls stars Anna Kendrick as Poppy, the optimistic leader of the Trolls, and her polar opposite, Branch, played by Justin Timberlake. Together, this unlikely pair of Trolls must embark on an adventure that takes them far beyond the only world they’ve ever known.

New ‘Kubo and the Two Strings’ Trailer Plus 3 New Posters

A new trailer’s arrived for Focus Features and LAIKA’s animated film Kubo and the Two Strings which features the voices of Charlize Theron, Matthew McConaughey, Rooney Mara, Ralph Fiennes, and George Takei. Three character posters have also been released for the animated adventure written by Marc Haimes and Chris Butler and directed by Travis Knight who’s making his feature film directorial debut with this LAIKA production.

Kubo and the Two Strings opens in theaters on August 19, 2016.

The Plot:

Clever, kindhearted Kubo (voiced by Art Parkinson of Game of Thrones) ekes out a humble living, telling stories to the people of his seaside town including Hosato (George Takei), Akihiro (Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa), and Kameyo (Brenda Vaccaro). But his relatively quiet existence is shattered when he accidentally summons a spirit from his past which storms down from the heavens to enforce an age-old vendetta.

Now on the run, Kubo joins forces with Monkey (Charlize Theron) and Beetle (Matthew McConaughey), and sets out on a thrilling quest to save his family and solve the mystery of his fallen father, the greatest samurai warrior the world has ever known. With the help of his shamisen – a magical musical instrument – Kubo must battle gods and monsters, including the vengeful Moon King (Ralph Fiennes) and the evil twin Sisters (Rooney Mara), to unlock the secret of his legacy, reunite his family, and fulfill his heroic destiny.

‘Audrie & Daisy’ Documentary Picked Up by Netflix

The documentary Audrie & Daisy has been acquired by Netflix and will air later this year. The film screened in competition at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival where it was met with positive reviews, including one by Leslie Felperin from The Hollywood Reporter who called it “utterly devastating, but essential viewing.” Directed by Bonni Cohen and Jon Shenk, Audrie & Daisy delves into teen sexual assault and cyber bullying by focusing on two teenagers, Audrie and Daisy.


“From the early days of production on Audrie & Daisy, we dreamed of distribution for the film that could reach millions of teenagers and their families. With Netflix, our dream has come true. We are excited to work with a company that has helped the best documentaries reach the widest possible audience,” said Cohen and Shenk.

The Plot:

Audrie & Daisy charts the parallel stories of two teenage girls from opposite sides of the country, both sexually assaulted by boys they considered to be their friends. Harassed online and taunted at school in the wake of their assaults, each girl is driven to attempt suicide.

The critically-acclaimed film examines the teen assault epidemic, the role of social media, and the impact of bullying directly from the perspective of the assailants whose interviews were secured as part of a landmark settlement agreement in their court case. Audrie & Daisy tells the rare story of a handful of girls and their families willing to speak out and fight back.

By highlighting the stories of these girls and their families and friends, Audrie & Daisy brings viewers closer to questions about truth, power, memory and trauma. Addressing a legal system that struggles to prosecute these type of cases and a society that struggles with victims rights, the film explores the pursuit of justice against the backdrop of powerful social media and communities that don’t want to believe this can happen in their own towns.

Freddie Highmore as Norman Bates is featured front and center on the new poster for season four of Bates Motel, clutching his mother’s pearls. That smile is so wicked… Season four is obviously going to be a wild one for the Bates family. Bates Motel is written and executive produced by Carlton Cuse and Kerry Ehrin, with season four set to premiere on March 7, 2016 at 9pm ET/PT.

The Bates Motel Plot:

Bates Motel, a contemporary prequel to the genre-defining film Psycho, will return with ten new episodes that further reveal Norman’s continued downward spiral and the effect it has on the family. This season Norma (Vera Farmiga) becomes increasingly fearful and desperate, going to great lengths to find Norman the professional help he needs. This further complicates their once unbreakable trust while Norman struggles to maintain his grip on reality. Sheriff Romero (Nestor Carbonell) once again finds himself drawn back into Norma and Norman’s lives.

Will things finally heat up between Norma and the other man in her life, Sheriff Romero, and just how much further will he go to protect her?

Jessie J and the ‘Grease Live’ Cast Sing Grease (Is The Word)

The network’s just unveiled a new behind-the-scenes music video featuring Jessie J singing ‘Grease (Is The Word)’ with the help of the Grease: Live cast. Fox is airing the musical special on Sunday, January 31, 2016 at 7pm ET (tape-delayed on the West Coast) with Julianne Hough and Aaron Tveit as lovebirds Sandy and Danny.

The cast also includes Vanessa Hudgens as Rizzo, Keke Palmer as Pink Lady Marty Maraschino, Carlos PenaVega as Kenickie, Carly Rae Jepsen as Frenchy, and Kether Donohue as Jan.

The Plot:

Grease: Live will reimagine and reintroduce some of the most memorable moments, great music and timeless love story to an entirely new generation. In this live television adaptation of the musical classic, the beginning of senior year means the end of Danny and Sandy’s summer romance – until Sandy unexpectedly transfers to Danny’s high school. Can Danny maintain his bad-boy image as the coolest member of the T-Birds, once he and Sandy start going together, and can Sandy remain a good girl after she joins the Pink Ladies?

With their friends, Rizzo and Kenickie, pulling them in different directions, it’s up to Danny and Sandy to stay hopelessly devoted as they make their way from Rydell High to a new frontier.

Star Wars’ Harrison Ford Joins ‘Wonderful World of Disney: Disneyland 60’

Disney’s bringing in Star Wars: The Force Awakens star Harrison Ford (‘Han Solo’) to help show off the new Star Wars-themed lands at Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resorts. Ford will be part of The Wonderful World of Disney: Disneyland 60 special airing on February 21, 2016, walking viewers through the Star Wars lands coming to both Disney resorts. According to ABC’s announcement, viewers can expect to learn new details about the plans for the much-anticipated lands.


In addition to Ford, the two-hour ABC special will feature Frozen‘s Josh Gad. Gad will provide a look at two of Disneyland’s special locations: Walt Disney’s private apartment and the Disneyland Dream Suite. Walt Disney’s apartment is located above the Main Street Fire Station where a lamp still burns in the window in his memory. The Disneyland Dream Suite is in New Orleans Square and was created so that Walt Disney could have a place to entertain his family and friends.

Sir Elton John is confirmed to perform the title track from his upcoming Wonderful Crazy Night album as well as “Circle of Life,” his Oscar nominated song from The Lion King.

Season two of the HBO comedy series Togetherness premieres on February 21, 2016 at 10:30pm ET/PT with Mark Duplass, Melanie Lynskey, Amanda Peet, Steve Zissis and Abby Ryder Fortson in starring roles. Togetherness, created by Mark Duplass, Jay Duplass, and Steve Zissis, will also feature guest stars Peter Gallagher, John Ortiz, Joshua Leonard, Ginger Gonzaga, Emily Althaus, and Katie Aselton in its eight episode second season.


The Plot: After Brett and Michelle nearly reached their breaking points, the season one finale of Togetherness saw Michelle kissing David while Brett was driving to Sacramento to declare his commitment to her. Season two reveals how the evening played out. Meanwhile, Michelle pushes ahead with her charter school plans as Brett looks for artistic inspiration. Following his big acting break, Alex returns from New Orleans reinvigorated. Tina presses herself to figure out what her life should look like. Through it all, this makeshift family continues to face the hilarity and anxieties of everyday life, while proving that they’re truly at their best when they’re together.
