‘Strangers 2’, ‘Masterminds’ and 3 Other Films Get Release Dates

Masterminds Movie Character Posters

Relativity Studios has set 2016 release dates for five films including The Strangers 2. The studio’s slate of films was in limbo due to the bankruptcy filings, but Relativity Media’s Ryan Kavanaugh all but guaranteed they’d be releasing seven films between January 2016 and mid-2017. These just-announced five films are part of Kavanaugh’s promise.

The Disappointments Room starring Kate Beckinsale, written by Wentworth Miller, and directed by D.J. Caruso will open in theaters on March 25, 2016. The horror film Before I Wake starring Kate Bosworth and Thomas Jane has landed an April 9, 2016 release date. The thriller Kidnap with Oscar winner Halle Berry will arrive on May 13, 2016. Masterminds with Kristen Wiig, Jason Sudeikis, Owen Wilson, and Zach Galifianakis opens on September 30, 2016. And, the horror sequel The Strangers 2 will be released on December 2, 2016.

The Masterminds Plot:

David Ghantt (Galifianakis) discovers the true meaning of adventure far beyond his wildest dreams. He is an uncomplicated man stuck in a monotonous life. Day in and day out he drives an armored vehicle, transporting millions of other people’s money with no escape in sight. The only glimmer of excitement is his flirtatious work crush Kelly Campbell (Wiig) who soon lures him into the scheme of a lifetime.

Along with a group of half-brained criminals led by Steve Chambers (Wilson) and an absurdly faulted heist plan, David manages the impossible and makes off with $17 million in cash…only problem is he foolishly hands the money over to this wild group of double crossers and has been set up to take the fall. With the bandits blowing the millions on lavish and ridiculous luxuries, they leave behind a glaring trail of evidence.

Now on the lam and in over his head, David must dodge the authorities, evade a hilarious hit man, Mike McKinney (Sudeikis), and try to turn the tables on the ones he trusted most.

The Before I Wake Plot:

Jessie (Bosworth) and Mark (Jane) decide to take in a sweet and loving 8-year-old boy, Cody. Unbeknownst to them, Cody is terrified of falling asleep. At first, they assume his previous unstable homes caused his aversion to sleep, but soon discover why: Cody’s dreams manifest in reality as he sleeps. In one moment they experience the incredible wonder of Cody’s imagination, and in the next, the horrific nature of his night terrors.

To save their new family, Jessie and Mark embark on a dangerous hunt to uncover the truth behind Cody’s nightmares.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens star Daisy Ridley showed up to chat with The Tonight Show host Jimmy Fallon and, of course, she was talked into competing against Fallon in one of his games. Ridley battled it out with Fallon in a fierce game of Star Wars-themed flip cups with the object being to drink the content of a cup, flip it on its rim, and then move on to the next cup.

Ridley, who is making her major feature film debut with Star Wars: The Force Awakens, also shared an Instagram clip of her watching the first trailer for the very first time. Ridley got so emotional about the first trailer that she actually cried.

Watch Shanice Williams Perform “Home” on ‘The Wiz Live!’

Shanice Williams absolutely nailed her performance as Dorothy in NBC’s The Wiz Live! which aired on December 3, 2015. One of the best musical numbers of the night was Williams’ performance of “Home,” with the 18-year-old New Jersey Native showing an incredible range during the heart-wrenching song.

The cast of NBC’s live musical also included Ne-Yo, Elijah Kelley, David Alan Grier, Queen Latifah, Common, Mary J. Blige, Uzo Aduba, Amber Riley, and Stephanie Mills. Kenny Leon and Matthew Diamond directed the special musical broadcast with Craig Zadan and Neil Meron (The Sound of Music Live!, Peter Pan Live!) executive producing.

If you missed the live broadcast, NBC will be airing The Wiz again on December 19, 2015 at 8pm. The broadcast drew in 11.5 million viewers, a huge increase over the network’s live presentation of Peter Pan last year.

Funny or Die Video: ‘Star Wars’ Fans Therapy Group Session

Star Wars Group TherapyStar Wars fans gather for a group therapy session to discuss the turmoil they’re experiencing as they wait for Star Wars: The Force Awakens to arrive in this Funny or Die video. All seem to agree the prequels have caused them to be so leery of the upcoming new Star Wars film that they can’t sleep, forget to pick up their kids, and are having problems with their spouses. Not even the thought of J.J. Abrams as the filmmaker behind the new Star Wars film provides much comfort because he was also behind Star Trek Into Darkness.

My favorite bit from the Star Wars Group Therapy video: “If you think about it, most of the Star Wars movies are bad. I mean, all three prequels are horrible but I am sorry – Return of the Jedi is not a good movie. Ewoks? Han Solo was a badass and now he’s just some weird doofus for the whole film. That means that only two out of the six movies were actually good. Odds are this one is going to be bad, too.”

Watch the Star Wars Group Therapy video:

The Star Wars: The Force Awakens Plot: Thirty years after the defeat of the Galactic Empire, the galaxy faces a new threat from the evil Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) and the First Order. When a defector named Finn crash-lands on a desert planet, he meets Rey (Daisy Ridley), a tough scavenger whose droid contains a top-secret map. Together, the young duo joins forces with Han Solo (Harrison Ford) to make sure the Resistance receives the intelligence concerning the whereabouts of Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), the last of the Jedi Knights.

The series is a prequel to/companion series of The Walking Dead and stars Kim Dickens as Madison, Cliff Curtis as Travis, Frank Dillane as Nick, Alycia Debnam-Carey as Alicia, Ruben Blades as Daniel, Mercedes Mason as Ofelia, Lorenzo James Henrie as Chris and Colman Domingo as Strand. Fear the Walking Dead is executive produced by Dave Erickson, Robert Kirkman, Gale Anne Hurd, Greg Nicotero and David Alpert.

“We are thrilled to be starting production and even more thrilled to be shooting in Mexico. Baja Studios has been home to some of the greatest ocean-set films in recent years and provides all the creative resources we need to begin this new chapter in the ‘Fear’ saga. We couldn’t be happier,” stated Erickson.

Fear the Walking Dead takes us back to the beginning of the zombie apocalypse – a time when the world was changing rapidly for reasons unknown, before anyone understood exactly what was happening, when life as everyone knew it was upended and altered in ways no one could have ever imagined.

Season one left off with Madison (Kim Dickens), Travis (Cliff Curtis) and their extended family taking temporary shelter in Strand’s (Colman Domingo) gated estate overlooking the Pacific Ocean. As civil unrest continues to grow and the dead take over Los Angeles, Strand prepares to escape to “Abigail,” his large yacht moored offshore.

‘Game of Thrones’ Season 6 Teaser Trailer: More Jon Snow

Game of Thrones Season 6 Jon Snow Poster

For a character who is supposedly dead and will not be returning, HBO’s sure been using a lot of Kit Harington as Jon Snow to promote Game of Thrones season six. The first teaser trailer that’s just arrived is 40 seconds long and at least half of that time focuses on Jon Snow. Also included is a tease of Bran (played by Isaac Hempstead Wright) who was missing from season five but looks to be a major player in the upcoming sixth season.

Of course, along with lots of Jon Snow comes the line: “The past is already written. The ink is dry.” And to top that off, Bran delivers this teaser: “They have no idea what’s going to happen.” True, Bran, so very, very true.

Game of Thrones season six will premiere in April 2016.
