Tom Cavanagh Interview on ‘The Flash’ Season Two

Tom Cavanagh was very cagey when it came to discussing what’s happening in season two of The CW’s breakout series The Flash during roundtable interviews at the 2015 San Diego Comic-Con. Laughing, Cavanagh said, “I know what’s happening and I’m not going to tell you any of it!” Sticking pretty much to that promise, Cavanagh did say that he and executive producers Greg Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg, and Geoff Johns would like to see more Flash and Arrow cross-over episodes.

“Last year, I think Johns and Greg and Andrew felt like they did a solid job bridging Arrow and The Flash, and if the viewership numbers are a testament to that, then we did,” explained Cavanagh. “It’s very organic for Martin Stein and Harrison Wells and Reverse Flash and Oliver – all of those guys to join up again. […]We certainly have a desire to. It’s all part of the same world. We all want to explore as much as possible of that world.”

Looking back on season one of the series, Cavanagh said episode 15 in which Eobard Thawne murders Cisco Ramon (played by Carlos Valdes) was a truly pivotal episode of the show. “It was tremendous because this is episode 15 – we talked about this when we had a screening of episode 15 in Hollywood. I’ve never been part of a television show that says we’re going to air not a season finale or not a pilot, we’re going to air a mid-season part of it and we’re going to have a special airing of it.

We did it because most of the journalists in the room could say episode 15 felt like a season finale. He declares his love, I kill Cisco, I get out of my chair, Joe is dying because of the weather wizards… It had so much stuff going on and that’s in 48 minutes of television. The fact that we had a big moment when Eobard Thawne kills Cisco, that feels like a really big moment when one of your main cast members dies. And the nice thing about the way we structured the story was we could then do that scene and Carlos and I could do that scene five different times.

Next episode, we come back and we need a lucid dream to try and get some information. Next episode it’s a flashback. And our next episode…we kept coming back and we got to do it many different ways every time,” explained Cavanagh. “It was fun to put my hand through his chest. I think we did it organically without us trying to cheat and we got to show people again and again and again how horrifying this was and also raised questions about will it happen again and how will he be affected. How will I be affected?”

As for season two, about the only solid hint Cavanagh would drop was that everything that happens will be earned. They won’t be taking any shortcuts in storytelling. “My starting point is always Eobard Thawne and what’s nice about being that person is there’s a lot of different worlds that Eobard Thawne can encompass and because of that there’s always new people we can bring in. It doesn’t feel like a cheat; it’s in an organic fashion. I very much enjoy that.”

“What I really enjoy about that character is you know it’s a comic book so the walls that prevent us from joining people who are big in mythology come down very quickly, and everybody wants to see it. Everybody wants to see that. Even though they want to see it, you want to do it in the best possible way that will give people… You want to do it where you feel like you have earned it,” said Cavanagh.

Season two of The CW’s The Flash will premiere on October 6, 2015.

Katie Cassidy Interview – ‘Arrow’ Season 4, Black Canary, and the Salmon Ladder

Katie Cassidy is proud – as she should be – of the amount of physical training she’s put into playing Laurel Lance/Black Canary on The CW’s Arrow. With season four set to premiere later this year, Cassidy has been dedicated to making sure she is in top shape so that she makes for a believable superhero on TV.

“The thing is I’ve always wanted to be in this genre. I love training; I love working out. I love action, and I kind of realize that I can determine my own destiny. I realized that I love working out and I love being healthy, and they’re basically saying, ‘You’ve got to look like you’re in superhero shape.’ And I also think it makes the character on the show a lot more realistic the more I can do,” explained Cassidy during roundtable interviews at the 2015 San Diego Comic Con. “As an actor I just feel like in my brain that’s what I would do is train and work out and work hard. It’s been really hard but it certainly has paid off. I don’t know if you guys follow me on Instagram but the training, I take it really seriously. But I love it and it makes you feel good too, being strong and having biceps.”

Speaking of her powerful biceps, Cassidy hopes the writers will include scenes of her using the salmon ladder in upcoming episodes. “[…]I’ve actually been working on it and I certainly hope so,” she said when asked about the possibility of that taking place in season four. Cassidy hasn’t actually been on the real salmon ladder yet because it’s on set and they’re on hiatus, but Stephen Amell clued her in on how to tackle it. “He was like, ‘As long as you can do a pull-up… ‘Can you do a pull-up? Can you do three pull-ups?’ I was like, ‘Yes! I can do 30 pull-ups.’ He’s like, ‘That’s all you really need to do. As long as you can do pull-ups, you’re going to be okay.’ I used to be a competitive gymnast and I feel like it’ll be pretty – I don’t want to say easy – but I feel like I got it.”

Cassidy obviously admires Laurel and says she’s a fighter with a lot of heart. “I definitely think that we’ll see her this season a lot more polished. She’s been training. She’s been working on her skills as much as possible. I think we’ll see her just develop and become even stronger. I also think that Andrew Kreisberg made a good point. He said, ‘Laurel always sees the light at the end of the tunnel as opposed to Oliver who can get to a dark place.’ Laurel always tries to see the positive in everything and I think that she’ll continue to do that. I think that she’s going to be a big part of the creation of Legends.”

Getting to gradually grow into the character of Black Canary and watch that storyline develop was also something Cassidy enjoys about being a part of Arrow. “As an actor it worked out perfectly and it was a dream come true because for me I like to do – to make any character I play as legitimate as possible I like to do backstory and creating as much detail as possible after script analysis to make the script and the story more legitimate,” explained Cassidy. “And so as an actor when they actually write that for me it’s genius because it makes that more realistic. I think the writers were really smart and we didn’t come out of the gates all of a sudden in season two I was Black Canary. Laurel had to go through hardship to be able to come out the other side, and for it to be believable. I think it was a slow, steady pace was definitely a good thing and I think now I can just go crazy and kick some ass! It’ll be awesome.”

‘The Player’ Wesley Snipes and John Rogers Interviews

Wesley Snipes returns to series TV with a starring role in NBC’s upcoming dramatic series The Player. Snipes co-stars with Philip Winchester in what’s being described as a show that’s reminiscent of action series from the ’80s. The action’s wild yet realistic, and during the 2015 San Diego Comic Con Snipes and writer/executive producer John Rogers talked about what viewers can expect when The Player premieres on September 24, 2015 at 10pm ET/PT.

The Player finds Snipes playing the man at the center of a high-stakes game “where an organization of wealthy individuals gamble on [Alex’s] ability to stop some of the biggest crimes imaginable from playing out.” Winchester plays Alex, a former military operative turned security expert whose personal tragedy leads to his introduction to Mr. Johnson and this bizarre gambling organization. During our roundtable interview, Snipes revealed that it will be a while before the audience gets to learn much about his character or even his character Mr Johnson’s first name. “Very early on you begin to understand that there are multiple sides and multiple dimensions to his character. There’s a lot more going on underneath the surface,” explained Snipes who confessed that not even he’s aware of his character’s backstory.

Even though he wasn’t told how Mr. Johnson became involved in this high-stakes game, Snipes was intrigued by the opportunity of tackling the role. “Well this particular character, Mr. Johnson, because of the nature of his job and having to move through many different communities and people, and also a responsibility of making sure the game was always played – the ‘house’ never closes; the casino was always open – we envisioned that it would give him a lot of opportunity to do disguises. I could do accents, besides just the martial arts which we’re going to add to it as well. That’s a nice set of ingredients for a repertoire actor. And you imagine that we have eight day shoots so I have to be thinking about me performing one character preparing for the next character at the same time. That’s fun,” explained Snipes when asked the appeal of The Player. “It’s like going back to repertory theatre.”

The Player also gives Snipes a chance to get back into action, and he says the action scenes Mr. Johnson is involved in will get more difficult and more and more intricate as the episodes go on. “Our job is to do dynamic action, not just superfluous, scatterbrained type of action,” said Snipes. “I want to do stuff that’s classic and beautiful to watch, dynamic and emotional to experience, and then we’ll leave a legacy.”

But it’s not all about action with Mr. Johnson. The writers are making sure there are multiple layers to all of the characters and have given Snipes’ Mr. Johnson a sense of humor. “You don’t want to just be sitting there watching a stoic guy who’s boring and has some quasi-interesting lines to say,” explained Snipes. “It’s nice to explore the comedic side. And, for me, some of best action always has some comedy in it.”

Snipes also offered a look at what audiences can expect from the relationship between his character and Winchester’s Alex. “It’s going to be a love-hate relationship and a relationship of necessity, at some point. They’ll both realize that they need each other at some point for some very intriguing purposes. Alex might have a whole agenda that we don’t know about, and he may know things about Mr. Johnson that we don’t know about. Maybe,” teased Snipes.

‘Dungeons & Dragons’ Movie Moves Forward at Warner Bros

Dungeons and Dragons Moves Forward at Warner Bros

The end of an extended legal battle apparently has left Warner Bros Pictures raring to go on a feature film based on Dungeons & Dragons. Warner Bros. Pictures, Hasbro’s Allspark Pictures and Sweetpea Entertainment are working together on the feature film, and David Leslie Johnson (The Conjuring 2) has already written the script. Brian Goldner and Stephen Davis from Hasbro will produce the film along with Roy Lee, Courtney Solomon, and Allan Zeman.

“We are so excited about bringing the world of Dungeons & Dragons to life on the big screen,” stated Greg Silverman, President, Creative Development and Worldwide Production, Warner Bros. Pictures. “This is far and away the most well-known brand in fantasy, which is the genre that drives the most passionate film followings. D&D has endless creative possibilities, giving our filmmakers immense opportunities to delight and thrill both fans and moviegoers new to the property.”

“This is such an enormous opportunity to bring the rich fantasy setting of the Forgotten Realms to life and, together with the creative powerhouse of Warner Bros., use movies to tell the stories that have enchanted passionate D&D fans for decades,” said Stephen Davis, Executive Vice President and Chief Content Officer of Hasbro, Inc. “D&D is the role-playing game that started it all and now we have the opportunity to ignite a franchise for its legions of avid fans in a way never done before.”

Included in the official announcement was a statement regarding the legal issues:

“Today’s announcement reflects the resolution of Hasbro and Wizards of the Coast LLC’s complaint against Sweetpea Entertainment, Inc. and Sweetpea BVI, Ltd. and the counterclaims filed by Sweetpea against Hasbro in May 2013 related to the Dungeons & Dragon brand. Solomon and Zeman will be attached to produce all Warner Bros.-produced Dungeons & Dragons film and television productions. All rights for future Dungeons & Dragons productions have been unified and returned to Wizards of the Coast, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hasbro.”

Studios are doing this new thing where they put out a teaser trailer for the real trailer, usually releasing the teaser trailer a few days prior to unveiling the real trailer. And, normally, I ignore these teasers and wait for the real thing. That won’t be the case with the Deadpool trailer’s teaser trailer. This one is worth sharing but be warned: bad language makes it not safe for work or for those with sensitive ears. The teaser finds Ryan Reynolds in full Deadpool costume talking about how the studio screwed up the character in its first film appearance and how the actual trailer will arrive tomorrow.

Deadpool opens in theaters on February 12, 2016.

The Plot:

Based upon Marvel Comics’ most unconventional anti-hero, Deadpool tells the origin story of former Special Forces operative turned mercenary Wade Wilson, who after being subjected to a rogue experiment that leaves him with accelerated healing powers, adopts the alter ego Deadpool. Armed with his new abilities and a dark, twisted sense of humor, Deadpool hunts down the man who nearly destroyed his life.

Derek Zoolander’s brain is a scary place to visit as demonstrated in the teaser trailer for Zoolander 2. If only Derek could have been able to connect the dots, Zoolander 2 might have been called 200lander or even Zoolander II. But the teaser trailer shows Derek just couldn’t figure out the point of – or how to pronounce – either of those titles. He also seems to believe E = MC Hammer, and the video shows his brain is full of images of hair dryers, monkeys clanging cymbals, and a merman.

Directed by and starring Ben Stiller, Zoolander 2 opens in theaters on February 12, 2016. The cast also includes Owen Wilson, Christine Taylor, Will Ferrell, Kristen Wiig, and Penelope Cruz.
