Topics range from President Obama’s home country of Kenya, being allowed to win at basketball, what it’s like to be the last black president, and the Affordable Care Act (or as Galifianakis calls it “that thing that doesn’t work”).

Say What? The Soup Serves Up Their Take on True Detective

Admit it – there were times over the course of the first season of HBO’s True Detective when you had absolutely no idea what Matthew McConaughey or Woody Harrelson (but mostly McConaughey) were saying. And there were probably even a few times when you understood what they said but still couldn’t figure out what they (again, mostly McConaughey) were talking about. In honor of those difficult to comprehend moments, Joel McHale and The Soup present their version of the critically acclaimed series which just finished up its season one run on March 9, 2014.

Details on the ABC Family shows:

Chasing Life – The new one-hour drama follows April (Italia Ricci), a smart, twenty-something, aspiring journalist who tries to balance her ambitious career with her family, which includes her widowed mom, Sara (Mary Page Keller), rebellious little sister, Brenna (Haley Ramm), and her grandmother, Emma (Rebecca Schull). We meet April at a pivotal moment in her life: she’s landed a fantastic opportunity to impress her hard-nosed Boston newspaper editor and an office romance with her super-sexy co-worker Dominic (Richard Brancatisano) is just beginning to blossom.

In an unexpected twist of fate, April lands in the hospital where her estranged uncle George (Steven Weber) works as an oncologist, and she learns the devastating news that she has cancer. The series follows April through her journey in the face of this daunting revelation, during a time in her life when the challenges of finding love and success would be enough to keep any girl occupied. But April is determined to fight and refuses to give up her dreams and goals. Along the way, she’ll find new reserves of strength and passion within and discover that facing death may really be the only way to truly live.

Young & Hungry – Two worlds collide when Josh (Jonathan Sadowski), a wealthy young tech entrepreneur, meets Gabi (Emily Osment), a feisty young food blogger, looking to be his personal chef. Gabi is desperate for the job and must prove herself, mostly to Josh’s aide, Elliot (Rex Lee), who prefers a famous chef for the job. When Josh enlists Gabi to prepare a romantic meal for him and his girlfriend, the dinner goes awry and Gabi finds herself in a very awkward position. With the help of her best friend Sofia (Aimee Carrero) and Josh’s housekeeper Yolanda (Kym Whitley), Gabi turns a difficult situation into an opportunity for employment and maybe even love.

Mystery Girls – The comedy series follows two former detective TV show starlets brought back together by a real-life mystery. Charlie Contour (Garth) is a suburban housewife and mother, while Holly Hamilton (Spelling) longs for her glory days in the 90’s when she was on television.

Both of their lives are disrupted when Nick (Miguel Pinzon), a witness to a crime and a “Mystery Girls” fanatic, will only speak to the infamous duo, and the former friends must reunite and put their TV crime-solving skills to the test. The series is also executive produced by Spelling and Garth.

Pretty Little Liars – In the new season of the hit drama series, the PLLs must dodge their dreaded nemesis, “A,” while navigating a world with Alison back in it. The series will hit a milestone 100 episodes during its fifth season.

Switched at Birth – The award-winning series returns to complete its third season by picking up the day after the winter finale, as our characters deal with the consequences of decisions made the night before. Kathryn deals with the reality of being a herotica novelist, Regina is torn between the pull of her old neighborhood and her new life, and the girls need to summon the courage to face a moment of truth they never anticipated.

The Fosters – The critically-acclaimed series centers on biracial lesbian couple Stef and Lena Foster, who are raising a multi-ethnic family mix of foster and biological kids. The second season will continue to explore the growing Fosters clan, with all the triumphs and travails, twists and turns, that fans of the series have come to expect.

Callie and Jude will try to adjust to their new roles in the family, and everyone will deal with the fallout from their previous actions. Past mistakes will come home to roost, consequences will be handed out, and victories will be hard fought, and ultimately well-won. Their deep bonds will grow, enabling America’s most modern family to face the future head-on, with love in their hearts.

Critics loved Raising Hope and it had a passionate fan base, however, the ratings weren’t high enough to warrant a fifth season of the comedy series. Fox will be sending the show off with a special one-hour finale set to air on April 4, 2014 at 9pm ET/PT.

“On behalf of myself, Greg Garcia and Raising Hope’s amazing cast and crew, I would like to thank our audience for tuning in and supporting us over the last four seasons,” said executive producer Mike Mariano. “We planned our Season Four finale with this possibility in mind, and hope our loyal fans enjoy the way we’ve chosen to say goodbye to the Chances and to Natesville. Thanks again, and we’ll see you in syndication.”

“Getting to know and love the Chance family on Raising Hope has been a sweet, hilarious ride,” said Kevin Reilly, Chairman of Entertainment and Joe Earley, Chief Operating Officer, Fox Broadcasting Company. “Thanks to the incredibly talented cast – along with Greg, Mike and the entire crew – for making us laugh for four fantastic seasons.”

The finale will be comprised of two episodes: “How I Met Your Mullet” and “The Father Daughter Dance.” In “How I Met Your Mullet,” guest star Lesley Nicol plays a new maid employed by Jimmy (Lucas Neff) and Sabrina (Shannon Woodward). Jeffrey Tambor and Kenny Loggins guest star in the “Father Daughter Dance,” with Tambor playing Virginia’s (Martha Plimpton) dad who shows up with a big surprise for his daughter and Burt (Garret Dillahunt).

TNT’s popular alien invasion series Falling Skies will return to the primetime lineup on June 22, 2014 at 10pm ET/PT, as just announced today by the network. TNT also revealed the new dramatic series The Last Ship starring Eric Dane and Rhona Mitra will debut on June 22nd right before the return of Falling Skies. And later this summer the new series Legends starring Sean Bean (Game of Thrones) will premiere on August 20th at 9pm ET/PT. The new thriller finds Bean playing an undercover FBI agent who’s losing his grip on reality.

In addition to the premiere dates, TNT also released new trailers for the three shows during a panel at SXSW.

“For the past three summers, TNT has had great creative and commercial success with Falling Skies, which has inspired us to continue to program for fans of sci-fi and action,” said Michael Wright, president, head of programming for TNT, TBS and Turner Classic Movies (TCM). “This year, we’re going to launch The Last Ship and Legends, two expertly crafted shows that bring the storytelling scope and thrill-ride excitement of our favorite summer movies to series television. With their great writing, expansive casts, and outstanding production quality, these are really fun, smart and addictive shows.”

The Last Ship

This summer, TNT is going to take viewers on an action-packed ride with the exciting new drama series The Last Ship, starring Eric Dane (Grey’s Anatomy) and executive-produced by blockbuster filmmaker Michael Bay (Transformers). Nathan James avoids falling victim to the devastating tragedy. But now, Captain Tom Chandler (Dane) and his crew must confront the reality of their new existence in a world where they may be among the few remaining survivors.

Rhona Mitra (Strike Back) plays Rachel Scott, a strong-willed, intelligent and fearless paleomicrobiologist assigned to the ship. Adam Baldwin (Firefly, Chuck) is XO Mike Slattery, a former homicide detective and Chandler’s second-in-command. Also starring in The Last Ship are Travis Van Winkle (Heart of Dixie), Charles Parnell (Pariah), Christina Elmore (Fruitvale Station), Sam Spruell (Snow White and The Huntsman) and Marissa Neitling (Leverage).

Based on William Brinkley’s popular novel, The Last Ship comes to TNT from Bay’s Platinum Dunes and its partners, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form, whose credits include the upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Bay, Fuller and Form serve as executive producers, along with showrunner Hank Steinberg (Without a Trace, The Nine), Steven Kane (The Closer) and director Jack Bender (Lost). Steinberg and Kane wrote the series pilot, which was directed by Jonathan Mostow (U-571).

Falling Skies

TNT’s epic drama Falling Skies – from Amblin Television and executive producer Steven Spielberg – tells the extraordinary story about life and survival in the wake of a catastrophic alien invasion. Noah Wyle stars as Tom Mason, a college professor who became an unlikely resistance leader. Moon Bloodgood is Dr. Ann Glass, a pediatrician who became the survivors’ primary physician and eventually fell in love with Tom. Will Patton is Colonel Weaver, the gruff and emotionally scarred commander leading the battle against the invaders.

Also starring in Falling Skies are Drew Roy, Connor Jessup, Maxim Knight, Seychelle Gabriel, Colin Cunningham, Mpho Koaho, Sarah Carter, and Doug Jones.

Since premiering as basic cable’s #1 new series of 2011, Falling Skies has ranked as one of the Top 20 original series on basic cable with total viewers and key adult demos. In addition to Spielberg, Falling Skies is executive-produced by Amblin Television heads Justin Falvey and Darryl Frank, along with David Eick and Greg Beeman.

Bean plays Martin Odum, an undercover agent working for the FBI’s Deep Cover Operations (DCO) division. Martin has the uncanny ability to transform himself into a completely different person for each job. But he begins to question his own identity when a mysterious stranger suggests that Martin isn’t the man he believes himself to be.

Legends also stars Ali Larter (Heroes) as Crystal Quest, a fellow operative who has a history with Martin; Morris Chestnut (American Horror Story, Nurse Jackie) as Tony Cimarro, a smart, quick-witted and charming DCO agent; Tina Majorino (Grey’s Anatomy, True Blood) as Maggie Harris, the newest member of the DCO team; Steve Harris (The Practice, Awake) as Nelson Gates, the director of the DCO Task Force; and Amber Valletta (Revenge) as Sonya Odum, Martin’s ex-wife; and Mason Cook (The Lone Ranger) as Martin’s pre-teen son, Aiden.
