New Trailer and Poster for Joe Starring Nicolas Cage

Roadside Attractions has unveiled a new theatrical poster and trailer for the dramatic film Joe starring Nicolas Cage, Tye Sheridan, Gary Poulter, and Ronnie Gene Blevins. Directed by David Gordon Green, marking a return to grittier fare after helming Prince Avalanche, Your Highness, and Pineapple Express, Joe is based on the novel by Larry Brown and adapted for the screen by Gary Hawkins.

Joe will open in theaters and on VOD on April 11, 2014.

The Plot:

Directed by David Gordon Green, the film brings Academy Award® winner Nicolas Cage back to his indie roots in the title role as the hard-living, hot-tempered, ex-con Joe Ransom, who is just trying to dodge his instincts for trouble – until he meets a hard-luck kid played by Tye Sheridan who awakens in him a fierce and tender-hearted protector.

The story begins as Joe hires teenaged Gary Jones and his destitute father onto his “tree-poisoning” crew for a lumber company. Joe might be notoriously reckless with his pick-up, his dog and especially with women, but he sees something in Gary that gets to him: a determination, a raw decency and a sense of resilience he can barely believe in anymore. Gary has truly had nothing in life – he’s never spent a day at school – yet something drives him to take care of his family, to keep his sister safe when his father turns monstrous, to hang onto hope of a better future. Joe and Gary forge an unlikely bond. When Gary finds himself facing a threat greater than he knows how to handle, he turns to Joe – and sets off a chain of events that play out with the brutal inevitability of tragedy and the beauty of a last stab at salvation.

In this new The Wolf of Wall Street featurette, Oscar-winning director Martin Scorsese talks about reuniting with Leonardo DiCaprio for their fifth film, and DiCaprio’s co-star – and fellow Oscar nominee – Jonah Hill calls him the best actor he’s ever worked with. DiCaprio’s the focus of this new The Wolf of Wall Street video, the latest promotional piece for the Paramount Pictures film which picked up five Oscar nominations and which could possibly earn DiCaprio his first Best Actor Oscar after having previously been nominated twice before in that category and once as Best Supporting Actor (for What’s Eating Gilbert Grape). Scorsese says this is DiCaprio’s best performance to date, but the odds are still in Matthew McConaughey’s favor for winning the Best Actor Oscar race.

Jimmy Fallon kicked off his run as The Tonight Show host by joining his guest Will Smith to take viewers through the history of hip-hop dancing. Of course, there were the obvious choices – the Running Man, the Cabbage Patch, the Robot, etc. – but Fallon and Smith also did the Steal the Face and Then Swallow It and Throw It Back Up, the I’m About to Break Dance, and the Leg Thing No One Can Do.

However, Smith drew the line when it came time to Twerk and left Fallon on stage by himself to demonstrate that maneuver.

John Cusack and Robert De Niro Star in The Bag Man

Isn’t it strange that there’s a dramatic thriller heading to theaters on February 28, 2014 starring John Cusack and Robert De Niro and no one seems to know about it? Flashback to 10 years ago and the teaming of Cusack and De Niro would be big news, but The Bag Man hasn’t yet generated any kind of buzz. That may change with the arrival of a new trailer for the crime thriller directed by David Grovic and co-starring Rebecca Da Costa and Crispin Glover.

The Plot:

The Bag Man is a taut crime thriller that follows the story of Jack (John Cusack), a tough guy with chronic bad luck but human touches. Hired by Dragna (Robert De Niro), a legendary crime boss to complete a simple but unusual task, the plot centers around the anticipated arrival of Dragna who has summoned JACK and a host of shady characters to a remote location for unknown reasons. Over the course of a long and violently eventful night awaiting Dragna’s arrival, Jack’s path crosses that of Rivka (Rebecca Da Costa), a stunningly beautiful woman whose life becomes physically and emotionally entangled with Jack’s. When Dragna finally arrives on the scene there are sudden and extreme consequences for all.

Lifetime Wakes Up The Grim Sleeper

Lifetime Larger LogoThe true story of the hunt for the serial killer nicknamed The Grim Sleeper provides the basis for a new original Lifetime movie. The Grim Sleeper directed by Stan Brooks (Perfect Sisters) will premiere on Lifetime on March 15, 2014 at 8pm ET/PT. Robert Nathan (Law & Order) and Teena Booth (The Drew Peterson Story) wrote the script and Dreama Walker, Ernie Hudson, Macy Gray, and Michael O’Neill star in the dramatic thriller.

The Plot:

The Grim Sleeper follows LA Weekly reporter Christine Pelisek (Walker) as she doggedly investigates the unsolved murders of dozens of women in Los Angeles and soon realizes one person is responsible for many of these deaths that began over 20 years earlier. After a string of murders in the 1980s, the violence seemed to end; but almost 14 years later, another murder spree begins, leading Pelisek to dub the killer “The Grim Sleeper.”

The reporter-turned-amateur detective notices similarities between the cases and sets out to break the story of her career, researching evidence and interviewing witnesses for clues to the killer’s identity. While police and lead detectives (Hudson, O’Neill) kept the community in the dark about a potential serial killer on the loose, Pelisek contacts the victims’ families to offer them the truth about what may have happened to their daughters, sisters, wives and mothers. When the only known survivor (Gray) comes forward to tell her side of the story, pieces of the mystery unravel and Pelisek is even more determined to bring justice for the victims.

Need for Speed opens in theaters on March 14, 2014

The Need for Speed Plot:

DreamWorks Pictures’ Need for Speed marks an exciting return to the great car culture films of the 1960s and ’70s, when the authenticity of the world brought a new level of intensity to the action on-screen. Tapping into what makes the American myth of the open road so appealing, the story chronicles a near-impossible cross-country journey for our heroes — one that begins as a mission for revenge, but proves to be one of redemption. Based on the most successful racing video game franchise ever with over 150 million units sold, Need for Speed captures the freedom and excitement of the game in a real-world setting, while bringing to life the passion for the road that has made our love of cars so timeless.

The film centers around Tobey Marshall (Aaron Paul), a blue-collar mechanic who races muscle cars on the side in an unsanctioned street-racing circuit. Struggling to keep his family-owned garage afloat, he reluctantly partners with the wealthy and arrogant ex-NASCAR driver Dino Brewster (Dominic Cooper). But just as a major sale to car broker Julia Maddon (Imogen Poots) looks like it will save Tobey’s shop, a disastrous race allows Dino to frame Tobey for a crime he didn’t commit, and sending Tobey to prison while Dino expands his business out West.

Two years later, Tobey is released and set on revenge — but he knows his only chance to take down his rival Dino is to defeat him in the high-stakes race known as De Leon. However to get there in time, Tobey will have to run a high-octane, action-packed gauntlet that includes dodging pursuing cops coast-to-coast as well as contending with a dangerous bounty Dino has put out on his car. With the help of his loyal crew and the surprisingly resourceful Julia, Tobey defies odds at every turn and proves that even in the flashy world of exotic supercars, the underdog can still finish first.

New Artist Spotlight: Parmalee

Parmalee Actor Profile

A Southern rock patrimony, dues paid in church gigs, a player too drunk to pick, and a late-night gunfight: Parmalee’s Country pedigree is as real as it gets.

Brothers Matt and Scott Thomas tagged along on their father’s blues/rock band gigs around Greenville, N.C. Soon they started playing on their own, joined by their cousin Barry Knox, a church choir drummer. After their dad’s inebriated guitar player failed to appear for a show, Matt took his place, with Scott assuming the drum chair and Barry switching to bass. When guitarist and keyboard player Josh McSwain came onboard, Parmalee was born.

Their road led eventually to Nashville — specifically, to a parking lot on Demonbreun Street, where they lived in their RV for a month of intensive writing and demo recording. Even the 2010 flood didn’t stop them, but a bullet almost did: After a North Carolina show in September 2010, Scott suffered a near-fatal wound during a robbery attempt. (He did, however, kill one of his assailants with his own legal weapon.) Ten days in a coma and 35 days of hospitalization were his first steps toward recovery, which culminated in his rejoining the band to audition successfully for Stoney Creek Records.

Produced by the New Voice team, released in December, Feels Like Carolina loosely tells the band’s story through rock-solid vocals, tightly crafted tunes, and a few discreet synthesizer effects — just enough to add a distinctive edge while keeping it Country.
