FX will premiere season two of the dramatic series The Americans on February 26, 2014 at 10pm ET/PT. The spy thriller starring Keri Russell, Matthew Rhys, Noah Emmerich, Holly Taylor, Keidrich Sellati, Annet Mahendru, Alison Wright and Susan Misner was the network’s most-watched drama premiere when it debuted in 2013, pulling in over 5.1 million viewers. Joe Weisberg (an ex-CIA agent) created the series and executive produces. Daniel Sackheim, Justin Falvey and Darryl Frank also serve as executive producers.

Filming is currently underway in New York.

The Plot:

The Americans is a period drama about the complex marriage of two KGB spies posing as Americans in suburban Washington D.C. shortly after Ronald Reagan is elected President. The arranged marriage of Philip (Rhys) and Elizabeth Jennings (Russell), who have two children – 14-year-old Paige (Taylor) and 11-year-old Henry (Sellati), who know nothing about their parents’ true identity – grows more passionate and genuine by the day, but is constantly tested by the escalation of the Cold War and the intimate, dangerous and darkly funny relationships they must maintain with a network of spies and informants under their control. Their neighbor, FBI Agent Stan Beeman (Emmerich) has already come dangerously close to discovering their secret, but was thwarted by Nina (Mahendru), his KGB mole and paramour. Torn between his wife Sandra (Misner) and his deepening feelings for Nina, Stan is completely unaware that the beautiful Russian is actually a double agent, reporting on him to the KGB. Philip has been more successful handling his mole within the FBI, Martha (Wright), assistant to Stan’s boss, Special Agent Gaad (Richard Thomas). Romancing Martha under the guise of one of his cover identities, an FBI bureaucrat named “Clark,” Philip has secured her unquestioning loyalty…by marrying her. Meanwhile, in the Jennings’ house, Paige has become increasingly suspicious that her parents are hiding something.

‘Gravity’ Sends Out a New Behind-the-Scenes Featurette

Gravity Script to Screen Behind the Scenes Video

Gravity‘s on everyone’s short list of films pretty much guaranteed to pick up a Best Picture Oscar nomination, and it should be in the running in the Best Director, Best Actress, Best Cinematography, and Best Score categories as well. And in support of its awards run, Warner Bros Pictures has just released this new behind-the-scenes featurette titled Gravity: From Script to Screen.

The new video features footage and interviews with Alfonso Cuarón, Sandra Bullock, George Clooney, David Heyman, Jonás Cuarón, Andy Nicholson, Mark Sanger, Tim Webber, Steven Price and Glenn Freemantle.

Gravity opened in theaters on October 4, 2013 and thus far has made $651 million worldwide.

The Plot:

Sandra Bullock plays Dr. Ryan Stone, a brilliant engineer on her first shuttle mission, with veteran astronaut Matt Kowalski (George Clooney). But on a seemingly routine spacewalk, disaster strikes. The shuttle is destroyed, leaving Stone and Kowalski completely alone—tethered to nothing but each other and spiraling out into the blackness.

The deafening silence tells them they have lost any link to Earth…and any chance for rescue. As fear turns to panic, every gulp of air eats away at what little oxygen is left. But the only way home may be to go further out into the terrifying expanse of space.

Disney has just unleashed the first trailer for the baseball drama Million Dollar Arm starring Jon Hamm and directed by Craig Gillespie (2011’s Fright Night). Coming to theaters on May 16, 2014, the cast also includes Aasif Mandvi, Bill Paxton, Suraj Sharma, and Madhur Mittal.

The Plot:

Disney’s Million Dollar Arm follows JB Bernstein (Hamm), a once-successful sports agent who now finds himself edged out by bigger, slicker competitors. He and his partner Aash (Mandvi) will have to close their business down for good if JB doesn’t come up with something fast. Late one night, while watching cricket being played in India on TV, JB comes up with an idea so radical it just might work. Why not go to there and find the next baseball pitching sensation?

Setting off for Mumbai with nothing but a gifted but cantankerous scout (Alan Arkin) in tow, JB stages a televised, nationwide competition called ‘Million Dollar Arm’ where 40,000 hopefuls compete before two 18-year-old finalists, Rinku and Dinesh (Suraj Sharma, Madhur Mittal), emerge as winners. JB brings them back to the United States to train with legendary pitching coach Tom House (Paxton). The goal: get the boys signed to a major league team.

Not only is the game itself difficult to master, but life in the U.S. with a committed bachelor makes things even more complicated–for all of them. While Rinku and Dinesh learn the finer points of baseball and American culture, they in turn teach JB the true meaning of teamwork and commitment. Ultimately, what began as a purely commercial venture becomes something more and leads JB to find the one thing he was never looking for at all – a family.

Ellen DeGeneres Show and Petco Foundation Announce Grant Winners

Petco Foundation GrantsMore than 4,500 applications were received and 33 animal welfare groups were chosen as the winners of Petco Foundation’s Holiday Wishes Grant Campaign. The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Ellen’s “Halo, Purely for Pets” pet food company, and the Petco Foundation awarded the grants after thoroughly considering each of the applicants, with $500,000 (total) awarded to 33 animal welfare groups. The Pet Rescue Center in Mission Viejo received the grand prize of $100,000.

Per the official announcement, The Pet Rescue Center was chosen for its story of Sammy, a male pit bull who had been used as a bait dog. “When he arrived at the center, Sammy had massive scars and fresh wounds covering his body, including a 3-4 inch laceration on the bottom of his chin and significant damage to his ears. Once healed, and while waiting for a new home, Sammy had the chance to pay it forward to another needy puppy who was found bleeding in a shopping center parking lot and in desperate need of a blood transfusion. Sammy’s blood type was a match and he proved to be the perfect patient throughout the entire process, earning him a spot in the center’s hall of fame for memorable rescues. And Sammy’s will to live and help others did not go unnoticed. Soon, a couple who was touched by his story came to meet Sammy. Although hesitant due to misconceptions about his breed, the couple was amazed by his demeanor and happy-go-lucky attitude, and they decided to adopt him. Sammy now lives with his new Wheaton Terrier brother and a family that loves him dearly.”

The Pet Rescue Center helps to save the lives of dogs and cats by working with shelters, veterinarians and animal rescue groups in Southern California. “The group provides a veterinary supervised temporary sanctuary for pets while they work to find adoptive families. The group provides educational resources, sponsors medical treatments and stocks a Pet Pantry that provides free pet food and cat litter for seniors and unemployed pet owners to keep pets in their homes.” For more info, visit www.thepetrescuecenter.org.
