The CW is Rebooting ‘Tales from the Darkside’

Tales from the Darkside RebootTales from the Darkside is coming back to life on The CW, according to Deadline. The network’s planning to reboot the George A. Romero anthology series with Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci and Joe Hill on board as executive producers. Hill is also set to write the series.

The original half-hour horror series ran from 1983 through 1988. Among the writers and directors who worked on the show were Tom Savini, Bob Balaban, and Stephen King. In an interesting tie-in between the old and the new, the reboot’s executive producer/writer Joe Hill is King’s son.

Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci’s credits include Sleepy Hollow, Transformers, the new Star Trek films, and The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

M Talks Agent 002 Into Helping Change Philomena‘s Rating

Philomena starring Dame Judi Dench and Steve Coogan has earned an R rating from the MPAA due to two instances of use of the F-word and, of course, Harvey Weinstein isn’t going to stand by and let a film hit theaters with a rating he doesn’t agree with (and a rating that, at least in this case, isn’t justified). He’s fighting the rating and he’s enlisted Dench – back in character as ‘M’ – as well as her co-star Coogan for a funny video in which Agent 002 is asked to talk the MPAA into reconsidering their decision.
 

 
The Plot:
 
Based on the 2009 investigative book by BBC correspondent Martin Sixsmith, The Lost Child of Philomena Lee, Philomena focuses on the efforts of Philomena Lee (Dench), mother to a boy conceived out of wedlock – something her Irish-Catholic community didn’t have the highest opinion of – and given away for adoption in the United States. In following church doctrine, she was forced to sign a contract that wouldn’t allow for any sort of inquiry into the son’s whereabouts. After starting a family years later in England and, for the most part, moving on with her life, Lee meets Sixsmith, a BBC reporter with whom she decides to discover her long-lost son.

Celine Dion’s 2014 Summer Vegas Schedule Announced

Celine in Las Vegas Summer 2014 Dates

35 shows have just been added to Celine Dion’s performance schedule for the summer of 2014. The new shows, all taking place at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace, kick off on June 10th and continue through August 31st. Tickets for the summer concerts will go on sale on Friday, November 15, 2013 at 10am with special pre-sale tickets on sale now to members of TeamCeline.

“It’s been six years since I’ve recorded a new English album,” said Celine, “so I can’t wait to go onstage and start singing some of these new songs.”

Celine added, “Of course, I will still sing the songs that fans around the world love, but the new music on Loved Me Back to Life is a natural evolution of me as an artist that I can’t wait to share with audiences.”

The new show dates are:

June: 10, 11, 14, 15, 17, 18, 21, 24, 25, 27, 28
July: 1, 2, 4, 5, 29, 30

Stevie Nicks to Guest Star on American Horror Story: Coven

FX’s American Horror Story: Coven‘s creator Ryan Murphy made the news official, tweeting about the addition of Fleetwood Mac’s Stevie Nicks as a guest star on the critically acclaimed series. Tweeted Murphy: “Guess who’s visiting the Coven? The legendary Stevie Nicks!”

Murphy didn’t reveal who Nicks would be playing or how her character would be integrated into the series, but this season has already included Fleetwood Mac tunes as part of the show’s soundtrack. Also this season, the character of necromancer ‘Misty Day’ (played by Lily Rabe) has been obsessed with Stevie Nicks and has insisted she’s actually a witch.

American Horror Story: Coven‘s cast is led by Jessica Lange, Kathy Bates, Sarah Paulson, and Angela Bassett, and includes Gabourey Sidibe, Emma Roberts, Taissa Farmiga, Jamie Brewer, Frances Conroy, and Denis O’Hare.

NASCAR fans like their Country Music tough, sleek and hot, just like their cars. That explains why Chelsea Bain has been rocking racetracks around the country. In May and June alone, her concert schedule included the Charlotte Motor Speedway and the Michigan International Speedway, not to mention an interview segment with Kyle Petty on the FOX Sports “Trackside” program.

Raised on an Arizona ranch, Bain personally prefers getting around on horses — she has won more than 10 national and world titles from the American Paint Horse Association. But there’s danger in her blend of Shania Twain’s and Johnny Cash’s spirits with elements of Joan Jett, Tom Petty, and P!nk. Her music doesn’t crash and burn — it just burns.

Check out her debut single, “James Dean” (written by Luke Sheets and Kata Rhe Gillispie). Set at a slow, slithering tempo, it opens with Bain playing a 17-year-old running away from her family in the dead of night and into the tattooed arms of her lover. Yeah, he’s a bad guy, but the singer still hopes “maybe I’m looking for the right kind of wrong.” With her sassy drawl radiating attitude, it seems likely that she’ll cause more trouble than her partner in the long run.

Produced by Stan Lynch and Billy Chapin, her first album, All American Country Girl, on Jobe Entertainment, simmers with this sort of intensity. Even when she offers glimpses of a more sensitive side, you know she’ll end up taking the reins in the end.

TV Guide Network Announces Seven New Projects

TV Guide Network is moving forward on seven new unscripted series that will be added to the network’s lineup in the future. Among the new shows going into production are a behind-the-scenes look at popular TV programs and a room makeover series.

“We have commissioned a slate of original projects that capture compelling and exciting stories of Hollywood, fandom, and obsession,” said Brad Schwartz, President of Entertainment and Media, TVGN. “TVGN is committed to doing what CBS and Lionsgate do best – create hit shows that audiences love.”

The Development Slate (Working Titles):

· ROCK THE BOAT: NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK: Obsessed fans take the vacation of a lifetime when they board a cruise for a week-long party on the high-seas with America’s favorite bands. The first group to headline this all-new series franchise is New Kids on the Block (NKOTB), one of the hottest bands in music history. ROCK THE BOAT: NKOTB will be produced by Jarrett Creative Group in association with Executive Producer and NKOTB band member Donnie Wahlberg.

· TMI: This quick-witted and fun show will deliver the top stories in Hollywood and entertainment through the lens of celebrity tweets and posts. TMI will be produced by Rogue Atlas Productions in association with Lionsgate Television with Eli Frankel (The Amazing Race, Braxton Family Values and American Chopper) as Executive Producer.

· WATCH! MAGAZINE TV PROJECT: Part travel show, part celebrity biography, part high fashion, this original series goes behind the scenes of CBS’s Watch! Magazine as it takes TV’s biggest stars to the world’s most exotic destinations for shoots with the world’s best photographers. WATCH! MAGAZINE SERIES will be produced by TV Guide Productions.

· CELEBRITY CELEBRITY: Based on the popular parlor game, this lively show will feature two teams of celebrity contestants as they compete to guess famous names based on their teammates’ clues, and rack up money for their favorite charities. CELEBRITY CELEBRITY will be produced by Avalon Television (Workaholics) with Joshua Malina (Scandal, West Wing and Celebrity Poker Showdown), Hrishikesh Hirway (Our Nixon), David Martin, Dan Lubetkin, Jon Thoday and Richard Allen-Turner as Executive Producers.

· HAVE YOU SCENE MY ROOM: Hosted by Joe Maddalena, the industry’s leading authority on Hollywood memorabilia, this home makeover series transforms a superfan’s entire room into a real-life Hollywood tribute to his or her favorite movie or television show. Co-hosted by Tanya McQueen (Extreme Makeover Home Edition, Property Ladder), HAVE YOU SCENE MY ROOM will be produced by Trium Entertainment (Something Borrowed, Something New and Recipe Rehab).

· TOUR WARS: Underneath the perceived glitz and glamour of Hollywood Boulevard is an underbelly of competitive and hungry tour-giving vendors who are willing to go to extremes in order to cash in on excitable tourists. TOUR WARS will be produced by Rogue Atlas Productions and Four Henrys Productions in association with Lionsgate Television. Eli Frankel, Aisha Corpas Wynn and Blaine Vess will serve as Executive Producers.

· THE STORY BEHIND (WORKING TITLE): Viewers will get an inside look at some of the most successful shows in television history. Featuring award-winning shows like Friends and ER, THE STORY BEHIND will reveal stories straight from the set and feature exclusive interviews with cast, producers and television executives such as Steven Spielberg, Warren Littlefield, John Wells and Neal Baer. THE STORY BEHIND will be produced by TV Guide Productions.




Mark and Donnie Wahlberg to Star in ‘Wahlburgers’

Mark Wahlberg will star in Wahlburgers

Wahlberg siblings Mark, Donnie, and Paul are teaming up with A&E for a new series Wahlburgers coming on January 22, 2014 at 10:30pm ET/PT. The new show will take viewers behind the scenes at their hamburger restaurant in Boston.

Per the official announcement, the restaurant is the “home base for the gang from the old neighborhood, including the real Johnny ‘Drama’ and, of course, their spirited mother Alma.”

“We’re thrilled to partner with the entire Wahlberg family as they graciously lift the curtain to share this new side of their story,” stated David McKillop, Executive Vice President and General Manager of A&E Network. “This series offers viewers a new take on the celebrity reality series showcasing one of America’s favorite families.”

The Wahlburgers Plot: The youngest of nine siblings, Mark and Donnie are no strangers to being in the spotlight. Now it’s older brother Paul’s turn to shine as he takes on the challenges of running a burger joint that touts the family name. Even with his brothers’ full support, this proves no easy task as he gets caught up in a whirlwind of bustling kitchens, an impending expansion and everything in between. The chef and restaurateur is careful to capture the flavor of their Dorchester home in every aspect of the restaurant.

At the heart of the family, and the chaos, is the matriarch of the Wahlberg clan, Alma. The mother who has seen it all is still the apple of her sons’ eyes. The battle to be her favorite is constant among the men who don’t make any big decisions without their mother’s backing. She isn’t afraid to step in and speak her mind and when she does, everyone listens.

Never far from the action is Mark and Donnie’s original entourage, Johnny “Drama” Alves and Henry “Nacho” Laun. These childhood pals are not reluctant to take advantage of old friendships, especially when it comes to a free burger. Also from the old neighborhood is Mark’s childhood friend and former partner-in-crime, Billy Leonard who is by his side when he’s in town and keeps him up-to-date when he’s not.

In the city that witnessed the family’s rags-to-riches story become a reality, all eyes are on the Wahlbergs who are determined to make the restaurant a success in Boston and beyond. Now they just have to agree on a second location.

Oprah to be Honored at the Santa Barbara Film Festival

Oprah Winfrey has been chosen to receive the Montecito Award during the 2014 Santa Barbara International Film Festival running January 30 through February 9, 2014. The special awards presentation will take place on February 5, 2014 at the historic Arlington Theatre.
 
The Montecito Award is given to a performer “who has given a series of classic and standout performances throughout his/her career and whose style has been a contribution to film.” Winfrey was selected because of her performance in Lee Daniels’ The Butler.
 
Announcing Winfrey’s win, SBIFF Executive Director Roger Durling said, “Ms. Winfrey, the actress, inhabits Gloria Gaines with such gusto – she makes you forget Oprah the impresario. Her performance is career-defining and reason to rejoice.”
 
Winfrey joins a list of winners that includes Daniel Day-Lewis, Geoffrey Rush, Julianne Moore, Kate Winslet, Javier Bardem, Naomi Watts, and Annette Bening.

Justin Timberlake just kicked off his The 20/20 Experience World Tour on November 6, 2013 in Brooklyn, and now he’s announced the addition of 12 new dates to his North America tour. The new stops include New York, New Orleans, and Detroit concert dates.

Disney Shows Off a New Maleficent Poster

Disney’s just unveiled this gorgeous new poster for the 2014 action adventure film Maleficent starring Angelina Jolie in the title role. Directed by Robert Stromberg, the cast also includes Sharlto Copley, Elle Fanning, Sam Riley, Imelda Staunton, Juno Temple, and Lesley Manville.
 
Maleficent opens in theaters May 30, 2014.
 
The Plot:
 
From Disney comes Maleficent—the untold story of Disney’s most iconic villain from the 1959 classic Sleeping Beauty. A beautiful, pure-hearted young woman, Maleficent has an idyllic life growing up in a peaceable forest kingdom, until one day when an invading army threatens the harmony of the land. Maleficent rises to be the land’s fiercest protector, but she ultimately suffers a ruthless betrayal—an act that begins to turn her pure heart to stone. Bent on revenge, Maleficent faces an epic battle with the invading king’s successor and, as a result, places a curse upon his newborn infant Aurora. As the child grows, Maleficent realizes that Aurora holds the key to peace in the kingdom—and perhaps to Maleficent’s true happiness as well.
