It was the tongue, wasn’t it? Maybe not, but Miley Cyrus’ tongue has been getting so much publicity recently that maybe it had something to do with the end of Cyrus’ engagement to actor Liam Hemsworth (younger brother of Thor‘s Chris Hemsworth and co-star of The Hunger Games films). People confirmed the couple are no longer heading down the aisle in the near future after having broken up one more time.
Hemsworth wasn’t around to watch Cyrus’ VMA twerking/tongue-extension performance live (he had to endure it on video like the rest of us), but Cyrus did accompany Hemsworth on the red carpet at the premiere of Paranoia in August. Other than that photo op, they’ve both been busy with films and music and haven’t been seen together as couple in public very often recently.
Cyrus and Hemsworth met while working on the romantic drama The Last Song and became engaged in May 2012. Since then they’ve broken up and gotten back together a few times, but this time it could be for good as Cyrus took the big step of unfollowing Hemsworth on Twitter – a 2013 social media signal that a relationship is over for good.
NBC confirmed three more actors have been added to the cast of The Sound of Music set to air on December 5, 2013. The musical will be performed live, with Carrie Underwood and True Blood‘s Stephen Moyer handling the lead roles of Maria and World War I hero Capt. Georg Von Trapp.
Joining them will be Tony Award winners Audra McDonald, Laura Benanti, and Christian Borle.
Five-time Tony Award winner McDonald (The Gershwins’ Porgy and Bess, A Raisin in the Sun, Ragtime, Master Class, and Carousel) will be playing Mother Abbess. Tony Award winner Benanti (Gypsy) and three-time nominee will handle the role of Elsa Schrader. And Tony Award winner Borle (Peter and the Starcatcher) will play Max Dettweiler.
The Sound of Music‘s music and lyrics were written by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein, and the Broadway production debuted back in 1959.
In addition to announcing new cast members, NBC and Carrie Underwood shared the first poster from the upcoming musical.
Harrison Ford has been selected to be the recipient of the 2013 Hollywood Career Achievement Award at this year’s Hollywood Film Awards. Ford will be joining a list of past Career Achievement award winners that includes Richard Gere, Glenn Close, Sly Stallone, Dustin Hoffman, Diane Keaton, and Kirk Douglas when he picks up the award at the October 21, 2013 gala event.
Ford was most recently seen on the big screen in 42, the dramatic film based on the life and baseball career of Jackie Robinson. He’ll next be in theaters starring in the sci-fi action film Ender’s Game.
“It is a great honor to celebrate Harrison Ford’s extraordinary talent and remarkable career with our ‘Hollywood Career Achievement Award,’” stated Carlos de Abreu, Founder and Executive Producer of the Hollywood Film Awards.
Highlights of Ford’s acting career include the Star Wars and Indiana Jones films, Witness, The Mosquito Coast, The Fugitive, The Conversation, Blade Runner, Working Girl, Regarding Henry, Presumed Innocent, Patriot Games, Clear and Present Danger, Air Force One, What Lies Beneath, and K-19: The Widowmaker.
It’s all still in the early stages but it appears AMC is developing a The Walking Dead companion series. The new series will be executive produced by Robert Kirkman, Gale Anne Hurd, and David Alpert and AMC’s aiming for a 2015 premiere of the new zombie show.
“Building on the success of the most popular show on television for adults 18-49 is literally a no-brainer,” stated Charlie Collier, AMC’s president and general manager. “We look forward to working with Robert, Gale and Dave again as we develop an entirely new story and cast of characters. It’s a big world and we can’t wait to give fans another unforgettable view of the zombie apocalypse.”
“After 10 years of writing the comic book series and being so close to the debut of our fourth, and in my opinion, best season of the TV series, I couldn’t be more thrilled about getting the chance to create a new corner of The Walking Dead universe,” added Kirkman. “The opportunity to make a show that isn’t tethered by the events of the comic book, and is truly a blank page, has set my creativity racing.”
The Walking Dead will kick off season four on October 13, 2013.
NBC’s one-hour drama The Blacklist starring James Spader as Raymond “Red” Reddington and Megan Boone as Elizabeth “Liz” Keen returns for season three on September 24, 2015. Ahead of its debut, here’s a look at what’s in store for Red and Liz.
The cast also includes Diego Klattenhoff as Donald Ressler, Ryan Eggold as Tom Keen, Harry Lennix as Harold Cooper, Amir Arison as Aram Mojtabai, Mozhan Marnò as Samar Navabi, and Hisham Tawfiq as Dembe Zuma.
The Synopsis: For decades, ex-government agent Raymond “Red” Reddington (James Spader) has been one of the FBI’s Most Wanted fugitives. Brokering shadowy deals for criminals across the globe, Red was known by many as “The Concierge of Crime.” Now, he’s mysteriously surrendered to the FBI with an explosive offer: He will help catch a long-thought-dead terrorist, Ranko Zamani, under the condition that he speaks only to Elizabeth “Liz” Keen (Megan Boone), an FBI profiler fresh out of Quantico.
For Liz, it’s going to be one hell of a first day on the job. What follows is a twisting series of events as the race to stop a terrorist begins. What are Red’s true intentions? Why has he chosen Liz, a woman with whom he seemingly has no connection? Does Liz have secrets of her own? Zamani is only the first of many on a list that Red has compiled over the years: a “blacklist” of politicians, mobsters, spies and international terrorists. He will help catch them all… with the caveat that Liz continues to work as his partner. Red will teach Liz to think like a criminal and “see the bigger picture”… whether she wants to or not.
In season three, FBI Agent Elizabeth “Liz” Keen is now a fugitive and on the run with criminal mastermind Raymond “Red” Reddington. With Assistant FBI Director Harold Cooper under investigation, a conflicted Agent Donald Ressler leads the FBI Task Force on a massive manhunt for Liz and Red. As they struggle to stay one step ahead of their former colleagues, Liz immerses herself into Red’s underworld of disreputable contacts and covert operations.
Liz is on an unpredictable journey of self-discovery and all the pieces of her life, including her indefinable relationship with Tom, will be drastically challenged as she continues to believe Red holds all the answers.
Cecily Strong and Seth Meyers on 'SNL' (Photo by: Dana Edelson/NBC)
Lorne Michaels told the New York Times that Cecily Strong will co-host the Saturday Night Live Weekend Update segment with Seth Meyers until he leaves the show in February to begin hosting the Late Show on NBC. Strong will initially share the Weekend Update desk with Meyers and then eventually take over as the solo host.
Whether or not she’ll solo host this season is still up in the air as Michaels hopes Meyer will be able to return to SNL for just the Weekend Update segments since his late night show doesn’t air on Fridays.
“Cecily, from the first show, was right there,” stated Michaels in his NYT interview. “She exploded.”
NBC also confirmed the addition of six cast members as featured players. With Bill Hader, Jason Sudeikis, and Fred Armisen now gone from the late night series, Beck Bennett, John Milhiser, Kyle Mooney, Mike O’Brien, Noël Wells, and Brooks Wheelan are filling in empty spots as featured players.
Season 39 of SNL kicks off on September 28, 2013 with Tina Fey hosting and Arcade Fire as musical guest.

Breaking Bad‘s Aaron Paul stars in DreamWorks Pictures’ Need for Speed based on the popular Electronic Arts video game and directed by Scott Waugh. George Gatins and John Gatins came up with the story and wrote the script, and DreamWorks is aiming to get the video game-inspired movie into theaters on March 14, 2014.
And although we’re still six months away from its opening date, DreamWorks is showing off the first official photos from the film.
The Plot: Based on the most successful racing video game franchise ever with over 140 million copies sold, DreamWorks Pictures’ Need for Speed captures the thrills of the game in a real-world setting. An exciting return to the great car-culture films of the 1960s and ’70s, when authenticity brought a new level of intensity to the action, Need for Speed taps into what makes the American myth of the open road so enticing.
The story chronicles a near-impossible cross-country race against time—one that begins as a mission for revenge, but proves to be one of redemption. In a last attempt to save his struggling garage, blue-collar mechanic Tobey Marshall (Aaron Paul)—who with his team skillfully builds and races muscle cars on the side—reluctantly partners with wealthy, arrogant ex-NASCAR driver Dino Brewster (Dominic Cooper). Just as a major sale to car broker Julia Bonet (Imogen Poots) looks like it will save the business, a disastrous, unsanctioned race results in Dino framing Tobey for manslaughter.
Two years later and fresh out of prison, Tobey is set on revenge with plans to take down Dino in the high-stakes De Leon race—the Super Bowl of underground racing. To get there in time, Tobey must run a high-octane, action-packed gauntlet, dodging cops coast-to-coast and dealing with fallout from a dangerous bounty Dino put on his car. With his loyal crew and the surprisingly resourceful Julia as allies, Tobey defies odds at every turn and proves that even in the flashy world of exotic supercars, the underdog can still finish first.
