Rob Lowe and Ginnifer Goodwin Will Star in ‘Killing Kennedy’

National Geographic Channel has confirmed Rob Lowe (Parks and Recreation) will star as President John F. Kennedy in the network’s adaptation of Bill O’Reilly and Martin Dugard’s bestselling book, Killing Kennedy. And Once Upon a Time‘s Ginnifer Goodwin has been tapped to play First Lady Jackie Kennedy in the two-hour dramatic movie which will begin shooting next month in Richmond, Virginia.

In addition to Lowe and Goodwin, Michelle Trachtenberg has been confirmed to tackle her first Russian-speaking role as Marina Oswald. Nelson McCormick will direct the film, with Kelly Masterson adapting the book for the small screen.

“We are thrilled to be working with Rob Lowe, Ginnifer Goodwin, and Michelle Trachtenberg, three gifted artists whom have responded to this timely, authentic and entertaining material,” stated Howard T. Owens, president of the National Geographic Channels. “With Killing Kennedy, timed to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the assassination of JFK, National Geographic Channel continues to bring daring, culturally significant television events to our growing global audience.”

The Plot: Killing Kennedy begins in 1959, at major turning points for both the future president and his assassin. John F. Kennedy is in Washington, D.C., announcing his presidential candidacy, while Lee Harvey Oswald finds himself in the U.S. embassy in Moscow, renouncing his U.S. citizenship.

These two events start both men — one a member of one of the United States’ most wealthy and powerful families, the other a disillusioned former Marine and Marxist — on a cataclysmic track that would alter the course of history. Throughout we see their highs and lows, culminating in not one but two shocking deaths that stunned the nation.

New Artist Spotlight: Angie Johnson

Angie Johnson Profile
Angie Johnson - Photo Credit: Alan Matthews

Apparently, it’s not enough for Missouri-born Angie Johnson to have served as an intelligence analyst in the United States Air Force; she also sang and toured with The Air Force Band. Then, following an initial attempt to find a break in Nashville, she studied psychology at Columbia State Community College in Franklin, Tenn., to help children and veterans struggling with PTSD.

When a soldier posted his video of Staff Sgt. Johnson performing Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep” for troops in a spirited acoustic performance on YouTube, it eventually drew more than 3 million views. Millions more watched her during Season 2 of The Voice.

That’s only the beginning. On May 21, Sony Music Nashville released her debut EP, Sing for You, produced by Josh Leo. On these four tracks, she doesn’t just sing the lyrics – she inhabits them. On “Grandpa’s Farm” (written by Brent Cobb, Adam Hood and Jason Saenz), a slide guitar shimmers like heat from a sun-baked field as Johnson evokes a lazy day, which transforms on the bridge, as the drums drop out, into a whispered promise, as if behind Grandpa’s back, to turn up the temperature in a different way.

In dramatic contrast, the deep feeling of the title track (Johnson, Catt Gravitt, and Leo) chills the listener. Here, Johnson offers a different gift, a soft and soothing song, to a young man bloodied and broken most likely in battle. Never mind her impressive technique; Johnson has a gift for bringing beauty to a story, even one of unfathomable sadness.

IN HER OWN WORDS

DREAM DUET PARTNER

“Garth Brooks or Keith Urban. I have harmonized with both of them repeatedly via the CD player in my car, and I can already tell you that we sound fabulous together!”

MUSICAL HERO

“I can’t name just one. The people who inspired me early on and made me really want to pursue a career in music were Patsy Cline, Elvis Presley, Reba McEntire and Wynonna Judd, in that order.”

FAVORITE FOOD ON THE ROAD

“First, carbs. Next, carbs. And then probably carbs. Did I mention carbs?”

BOOK ON YOUR NIGHTSTAND

“My CMA notebook that I got in my CMA membership package!”

Lifetime’s just released a batch of photos from the upcoming dramatic film Jodi Arias: Dirty Little Secret set to debut on June 22, 2013. Based on the real-life murder of Travis Alexander by his ex-girlfriend Jodi Arias, the original Lifetime movie follows the trial all the way up through the verdict.

Check out the photo gallery

The Plot:

Based on the disturbing murder trial that continues to captivate the nation, Jodi Arias: Dirty Little Secret tells the story of Jodi Arias (Tania Raymonde, Lost), a seductive 28-year-old aspiring photographer recently found guilty of killing her former lover, Travis Alexander (Jesse Lee Soffer, The Mob Doctor), who was found nude in his home shower with a slit throat, 27 additional stab wounds and a bullet to the head.

While investigating the violent killing, Mesa, Arizona police retrieved a digital camera from Alexander’s washing machine, revealing shocking images authorities claim Arias took during their sexual escapades, as well as during and after his murder. While Jodi pled not guilty and contends she killed Alexander in self-defense, police concluded that when he broke off their relationship, she stalked her ex-boyfriend and seduced him one final time before murdering him in cold blood.

Her subsequent trial has been grand theater, dominating the cable news networks as she testified in her own defense and offered explicit insight into the sex, lies and obsession that led up to Alexander’s murder.

Tony Plana (Ugly Betty) portrays Prosecutor Juan Martinez and David Zayas (Dexter) plays Detective Esteban Flores.
