Neil Diamond Leads Boston Fans in “Sweet Caroline”

Singer Neil Diamond made a surprise appearance at the April 20, 2013 Boston Red Sox game to lead the crowd in a rousing rendition of “Sweet Caroline.” Diamond’s “Sweet Caroline” is normally played during the seventh inning stretch at Red Sox games and has been since 2002, and baseball parks across the U.S. honored those affected by the terrorist attacks at the April 15, 2013 Boston Marathon by also playing the song during their seventh inning stretches in a show of support and solidarity.

The April 20th game began with a tribute to those affected by the bombing, followed by a representative of the victims, the first responders, and the runners throwing out the first pitch. And then it was David Ortiz’ turn to speak and the crowd responded with thunderous applause when he stated: “This is our f–king city! No one is going to take away our freedom.” His speech was broadcast live however the FCC has stated they are not going to fine either Ortiz or MLB, saying that David spoke from his heart and the FCC stands with him.

And instead of the normal recording of “Sweet Caroline” playing during the seventh inning stretch, Neil Diamond took the field and performed it live. Because it was totally unplanned – Diamond showed up right before the game and asked if it could sing it – the stadium officials didn’t have a track on hand that didn’t have his vocals on it.

Bradley Cooper (Silver Linings Playbook) and New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman paid a visit to Boston Marathon bombing victim Jeffrey Bauman as well as other victims of the Boston attack as they recovering from their injuries at Boston Medical Center. Bauman lost both of his lower legs following the horrific attack by terrorist brothers at the finish line of Monday, June 15, 2013’s Boston Marathon.

Bauman is the bombing victim pictured in the iconic AP photo snapped moments after the attack. In the photo, Bauman is seen in a wheelchair being rushed to an ambulance while being assisted by heroic Carlos Arredondo. Bauman was at the marathon cheering on his girlfriend while Arredondo was there passing out American flags in honor of service members who lost their lives in battle. Arredondo’s son, U.S. Marine Lance Cpl. Alexander Arredondo, was killed in Iraq in 2004.

At the hospital, Bauman was able to identify the bomber, with his brother Chris reporting Jeff asked for a pen and paper and wrote “bag, saw the guy, looked right at me.”

After visiting Jeff in the hospital, Edelman tweeted: “Visited #survivor #stud #hero Jeffrey Bauman Jr. today. He was looking great and is a true inspiration. #strong” – @Edelman11

Bradley Cooper was in town filming American Hustle with David O. Russell. Production on the film was shut down during the lockdown of the city.

The third season of Only in America with Larry the Cable Guy will premiere on May 8, 2013 at 9pm on History. Starring the popular comedian, the Only in America series follows Larry as he hits the road to “spotlight the people, places and things that make America unique.”

Larry the Cable Guy also produces the series along with J.P. Williams and Susan Werbe.

The Plot:

His adventures include celebrating the modern-day “black gold rush” in Williston, North Dakota; delving into our country’s celebrity obsession by banding up with the paparazzi in “Hollyweird”, California; and scouring the Florida wilderness for poisonous snakes to bring to the “Serpentarium” – where he’ll help extract their venom for medicinal uses.

As Larry makes his way through the states, his immersion in our country’s colorful subcultures informs as much as it entertains. Whether he’s in New Mexico launching a bobble-head of himself into space, in Iowa uncovering the secrets of “carny” life, in Tennessee traversing the region’s most dangerous roads, or in Arizona wrestling an ostrich, Larry’s travels continue to prove that America is multi-faceted and anything but ordinary.
