First Look: NBC’s ‘Hannibal’ Trailer

Please let this be good… NBC’s just released a trailer for the new drama series Hannibal debuting on April 4, 2013 and starring Mads Mikkelsen as Hannibal Lecter and Hugh Dancy as FBI Agent Will Graham. Created by Bryan Fuller, the cast of the much-anticipated dramatic series also includes Caroline Dhavernas and Laurence Fishburne.

The Plot: One of the most fascinating literary characters comes to life on television for the first time: psychiatrist-turned-serial-killer Dr. Hannibal Lecter. In this new drama from Bryan Fuller (Pushing Daisies, Heroes), based on the characters from Thomas Harris’ classic novels, we see where this incredible story began.

Will Graham (Hugh Dancy) is a gifted criminal profiler who is on the hunt for a serial killer with the FBI. Graham’s unique way of thinking gives him the astonishing ability to empathize with anyone – even psychopaths. He seems to know what makes them tick. But when the mind of the twisted killer he’s pursuing is too complicated for even Will to comprehend, he enlists the help of Dr. Lecter, one of the premier psychiatric minds in the country. Armed with the uncanny expertise of the brilliant doctor, Will and Hannibal (known as a serial killer only to the audience) form a brilliant partnership and it seems there’s no villain they can’t catch. If Will only knew…

Jim Grant (Robert Redford) is a public interest lawyer and single father raising his daughter in the tranquil suburbs of Albany, New York. Grant’s world is turned upside down, when a brash young reporter named Ben Shepard (Shia LaBeouf) exposes his true identity as a former 1970s antiwar radical fugitive wanted for murder. After living for more than 30 years underground, Grant must now go on the run. With the FBI in hot pursuit, he sets off on a cross-country journey to track down the one person that can clear his name.

Shepard knows the significance of the national news story he has exposed and, for a journalist, this is an opportunity of a lifetime. Hell-bent on making a name for himself, he is willing to stop at nothing to capitalize on it. He digs deep into Grant’s past. Despite warnings from his editor and threats from the FBI, Shepard relentlessly tracks Grant across the country.

As Grant reopens old wounds and reconnects with former members of his antiwar group, the Weather Underground, Shepard realizes something about this man is just not adding up. With the FBI closing in, Shepard uncovers the shocking secrets Grant has been keeping for the past three decades. As Grant and Shepard come face to face in the wilderness of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, they each must come to terms with who they really are.

Behind the Scenes of ‘Da Vinci’s Demons’

One of the more intriguing new shows this year is set to debut on Starz on April 12, 2013. Da Vinci’s Demons starring Tom Riley as Leonardo da Vinci was created by David S. Goyer (screenwriter of the Dark Knight trilogy) and takes a look at the life of genius painter who left thousands of journal pages behind after his passing.

Hundreds of those pages are now available online, courtesy of the British Library. And Goyer was even given access at the British Museum to look at Da Vinci’s actual journals while doing his research for the series, noting that some of the pages he viewed had wine and food stains on them. During his research process for Da Vinci’s Demons, Goyer also discovered that 7,000 of Leonardo da Vinci’s 13,000 journal pages vanished within a year of his death.

“Accessing some of Leonardo da Vinci’s own journal pages from the British Museum’s collection was inspiring to say the least. Even in another language and often, written backwards in da Vinci’s mirror handwriting, one can feel the remarkable influence of da Vinci’s unparalleled genius,” explained Goyer. “Da Vinci’s Demons is an opportunity to delve into the gaps in history and imagine what this man may have been like and what he may have accomplished in his youth—what might have been in those 7,000 missing pages.”

The Plot: Da Vinci’s Demons is a historical fantasy following the ‘untold’ story of the world’s greatest genius during his turbulent youth in Renaissance Florence. Brilliant and passionate, the twenty-five-year-old Leonardo da Vinci is an artist, inventor, swordsman, lover, dreamer and idealist. As a free thinker with intellect and talents that are almost superhuman, he struggles to live within the confines of his own reality and time. He begins to not only see the future but invent it.

Harlem Shake Video – Happy Endings Cast

Move over “Gangnam Style” – “Harlem Shake” is the new thing. And as with both “Gangnam Style” and “Call Me Maybe” before it, videos of random groups including Norway’s army, firemen, the UGA’s men’s swim and dive team, US Marines, and college students around the globe dancing to Harlem Shake are spreading like wildfire. We’ll be tired of it in another week (maybe sooner), but this one by the cast of Happy Endings is worth checking out just because…well…it’s the cast of Happy Endings.

Nick Damici Set to Star in ‘Late Phases’

Nick Damici

Nick Damici (Stake Land, Premium Rush) has signed on to star in the thriller Late Phases set up at MPI’s Dark Sky Films. Adrian Garcia Bogliano (Here Comes The Devil) will direct the movie from a script by Eric Stolze (Under the Bed).

Filming’s expected to begin soon, with Dark Sky, Site B Productions, and Glass Eye Pix all producing.

Announcing Damici’s casting, MPI Executive Vice President Greg Newman said, “Nick Damici was a key factor in the success of Stake Land and he’ll bring that same unforgettable presence to this new film.”

The Plot: Late Phases will tell the story of Ambrose McKinley, who moves into a community where the residents have been dying in increasing numbers – oddly, all have supposedly been the victims of dog attacks. But after barely surviving his own attack on his first night there, Ambrose discovers that the assailants are much more than canines.

‘Shameless’ Season 3 Episode 5 Preview

I’m still not sure what I think of season three of Shameless…hopefully it’ll pick up some, maybe even with the February 17th episode titled “The Sins of My Caretaker.” Shameless airs at 9pm and stars William H Macy, Emmy Rossum (currently seen on the big screen in Beautiful Creatures), Ethan Cutkosky, Justin Chatwin, Jeremy Allen White, and Cameron Monaghan.

The Plot:

The city of Chicago gives notice that they’re doing work on the sewer main. The problem? Aunt Ginger’s bones are still buried in the lawn and Frank needs to find her before the city does.

‘Mental’ Trailer and Poster

Mental Movie Poster with Toni Collette

Mental is the movie you’d get if Nanny McPhee wasn’t magical but instead was mentally imbalanced. Mental reunites the writer/director of Muriel’s Wedding, PJ Hogan, with that film’s star, Toni Collette, in a comedy which also features Liev Schreiber, Anthony Lapaglia, Rebecca Gibney, Kerry Fox, Caroline Goodall, Deborah Mailman, and Sam Clark.

Mental hits theaters on March 29, 2013.

The Plot:

The Moochmore girls are all certain they suffer from some sort of mental illness because if they’re not crazy, they’re just unpopular. The combination of Shirley’s five rambunctious daughters and her philandering husband, Barry, becomes too much for her to bear and she is committed to a mental institution.

Barry, a small-time politician, is left to take care of five girls who he barely knows. Overwhelmed, he impulsively picks up Shaz, a colorful hitchhiker on the side of the road, and installs her as the girls’ nanny. Shaz is charismatic, hot-tempered, inspiring, and completely nuts. However, she proves to be exactly what the Moochmore family needs.

SNL Video: ‘Djesus Uncrossed’ from Quentin Tarantino

Are you ready for Quentin Tarantino’s next movie? Saturday Night Live teases it will be Djesus Unchained. Christoph Waltz will play Jesus, risen from the dead to avenge his death and kill Romans. Brad Pitt will channel his Inglorious Basterds‘ character, this time playing St. Peter urging his troops to kill Ro-mans.

This SNL version of a possible Tarantino movie would also cast Ving Rhames as Pontius Pilate a la Marsellus Wallace and getting all Old Testament on Jesus, and Samuel L Jackson as Judas Iscariot. And before Jesus blows away Judas, he says, “When you get to Heaven, say hi to my dad.”

SNL‘s made available an extended version of the sketch. The sketch aired on the February 16, 2013 episode hosted by Christoph Waltz.
