First Look: The Host’ Trailer Starring Saoirse Ronan

It doesn’t have sparkling vampires or hunky werewolves, but it is from the author of the Twilight series so it has a built-in fanbase. The Host, an alien invasion love story, just debuted a new trailer – striking while the interest in Stephenie Meyer’s high as the final Twilight film, Breaking Dawn Part 2, arrives in theaters this Friday.

The Plot:

The Host is a story about the survival of love and the human spirit in a time of war. Our world has been invaded by an unseen enemy. Humans become hosts for these invaders, their minds taken over while their bodies remain intact. Most of humanity has succumbed. When Melanie (Saoirse Ronan), one of the few remaining “wild” humans, is captured, she is certain it is her end. Wanderer, the invading “soul” who has been given Melanie’s body, was warned about the challenges of living inside a human: the overwhelming emotions, the glut of senses, the too-vivid memories.

But there was one difficulty Wanderer didn’t expect: the former tenant of her body refusing to relinquish possession of her mind.

When outside forces make Wanderer and Melanie unwilling allies, they set off on a dangerous and uncertain search for the man they both love.

Nashville will be sticking around for a full first season, so says ABC. The network’s giving the new music-driven drama a shot at success with a full season one order, just as it’s already done with the aliens-next-door comedy series The Neighbors.

Thus far, Nashville‘s first season has seen the rookie series place first in its time slot among adults 18-49. According to ABC, the series is also ranking in the top 3 new shows with adults 18-49 and 18-34.

The one-hour series stars Connie Britton as Rayna Jaymes, Hayden Panettiere as Juliette Barnes, Charles Esten as Deacon Claybourne, Eric Close as Teddy Conrad, Clare Bowen as Scarlett O’Connor, Jonathan Jackson as Avery Barkley, Sam Palladio as Gunnar Scott, Robert Ray Wisdom as Coleman Carlisle, and Powers Boothe as Lamar Wyatt.

His Lincoln skit on the November 3, 2012 episode of Saturday Night Live is one of the hottest online videos of this SNL season, and now fans will get to see more of Louis CK on TV when he returns to HBO for another stand-up special.

The hour-long special will be taped at one of his 16-city tour stops and will be directed by Louis CK. He’ll also executive produce the show along with Dave Becky and Blair Breard.

HBO President of Programming Michael Lombardo announced Louis CK’s second hour-long special, stating: “I’m delighted to welcome the gifted Louis CK back to HBO. This comic genius remains one of the freshest voices on the scene, and HBO is proud to provide an uncensored forum for his provocative humor.”

Louis CK earned two Emmys this year for Writing for a Comedy Series (FX’s Louie) and Writing for a Variety Special (Louis CK Live at the Beacon Theatre).

His first HBO hour-long special aired in 2007, and he won an Emmy as part of HBO’s The Chris Rock Show‘s writing team.

INXS Confirms the End of Their Touring Days

INXS drummer Jon Farriss broke the news that the group is finished touring to fans in attendance at the November 11, 2012 concert in Perth, Western Australia. Following the concert, INXS band members issued this statement via the group’s official website:

We understand that this must come as a blow to everybody, but all things must eventually come to an end. We have been performing as a band for 35 years, it’s time to step away from the touring arena.”

“Our music will of course live on and we will always be a part of that.”

“We would like to express our heartfelt thanks to all the friends and family that have supported us throughout our extensive career. Our lives have been enriched by having you all as a part of the journey.”

INXS has been touring since the 1980s, even continuing to tour following the death of their lead singer Michael Hutchence in November 1997.

“It’s been 35 years for INXS as a live touring band and unbelievably it’s been 15 years ago since we lost Michael,” said Jon Farriss. “We lived for each other in the trenches and we loved each other. It was the six of us against the world and then suddenly and inexplicably we were but five. We were lost right at the moment we were on top.”

“We never took a soft option, it was the adversity, the challenge and the struggle that forged us into the live working band we became. And this was as big as it could possibly get when it came to a challenge” said Andrew Farriss, “and in the end we decided for a whole bunch of reasons to march forward. To us there was no other option, families always move forward.”

The band’s manager Chris Murphy said, “They believed unconditionally in each other and they also believed unconditionally in the music. People fade, sometimes way too early… that is life whether we like it or not. To live to 80 plus is a life well lived. To lose Michael so young was a tragedy for all of us. But with this band, their legacy, their music was just so damn good, it was always destined to live beyond all of us.”

Summing up the end of their touring days, Jon Farriss stated: “INXS’ touring days could never last forever. We wanted it to end on a high. And it has.”

Spotlight On: Catch My Breath by Kelly Clarkson

Kelly Clarkson’s “Catch My Breath” music video keeps it simple, focusing just on the artist herself. Clarkson looks beautiful, and the video concentrates on her performance of the song rather than telling a story.

“Catch My Breath” is the lead single off of Clarkson’s upcoming album, Greatest Hits: Chapter One, set for release on November 19, 2012.
