Go Behind the Scenes of ‘Total Recall’

Colin Farrell, Kate Beckinsale, John Cho, Jessica Biel, director Len Wiseman, and producer Neal Moritz take viewers behind the scenes of the new Total Recall film with this action-packed featurette. Farrell calls this Total Recall “hugely impressive and really clever,” and we’ll just have to take his word for it as the film’s still a few weeks away from release.

The Plot:

Total Recall is an action thriller about reality and memory, inspired anew by the famous short story “We Can Remember It For You Wholesale” by Philip K. Dick. Welcome to Rekall, the company that can turn your dreams into real memories. For a factory worker named Douglas Quaid (Colin Farrell), even though he’s got a beautiful wife (Kate Beckinsale) who he loves, the mind-trip sounds like the perfect vacation from his frustrating life – real memories of life as a super-spy might be just what he needs. But when the procedure goes horribly wrong, Quaid becomes a hunted man.

Finding himself on the run from the police – controlled by Chancellor Cohaagen (Bryan Cranston), the leader of the free world – Quaid teams up with a rebel fighter (Jessica Biel) to find the head of the underground resistance (Bill Nighy) and stop Cohaagen. The line between fantasy and reality gets blurred and the fate of his world hangs in the balance as Quaid discovers his true identity, his true love, and his true fate.

New Trailer for ‘Cosmopolis’ Starring Robert Pattinson

David Cronenberg’s Cosmopolis gets more interesting with each new video, and this official US trailer makes us anxious for the film’s August 17th release. Based on the novella by Don DeLillo, Cosmopolis stars Robert Pattinson, Paul Giamatti, Juliette Binoche, Samantha Morton, Jay Baruchel, and Kevin Durand.

The Plot:

Cosmopolis is a day in the life of Eric Packer, a 28-year-old New York stock market multi-millionaire, as he crosses Manhattan in his customized limousine to go for a haircut. His cross-town journey becomes an almost vertical voyage, with bizarre occurrences and an authentic parade of crazy characters along the way, in a landscape that depicts the modern soul of the West at the end of the millennium.

New York City, not-too-distant-future: Eric Packer, a 28 year-old finance golden boy dreaming of living in a civilization ahead of this one, watches a dark shadow cast over the firmament of the Wall Street galaxy, of which he is the uncontested king. As he is chauffeured across midtown Manhattan to get a haircut at his father’s old barber, his anxious eyes are glued to the yuan’s exchange rate: it is mounting against all expectations, destroying Eric’s bet against it. Eric Packer is losing his empire with every tick of the clock.

Meanwhile, an eruption of wild activity unfolds in the city’s streets. Petrified as the threats of the real world infringe upon his cloud of virtual convictions, his paranoia intensifies during the course of his 24-hour cross-town odyssey. Packer starts to piece together clues that lead him to a most terrifying secret: his imminent assassination.

Film, TV, and Comic Book Writer Launches His Own Studio

Studio JMSJ. Michael Straczynski has launched Studio JMS, a new media company that will “combine all of the mediums in which Straczynski has been successfully working for decades, encompassing comic books, web and television series, feature films and video games.” The award winning writer and producer already has projects in development through Studio JMS including The Adventures of Apocolypse Al web series for MTV.com and the studio’s own Living Dead the Musical web series. In addition, Straczynski has two television series in development: Epidemic for Will Smith’s Overbrook Entertainment and Vlad Dracula for Starz.

According to the press release, Studio JMS is also working on a World War II film based on a true story which will mark Straczynski’s directorial debut.

Patricia Tallman, actress and creator/owner of Talent to Go, will be joining Straczynski’s Studio JMS.

“For twenty years, I’ve had the remarkable good fortune to work successfully as a writer and producer in a wide variety of fields, from television to comics and movies,” stated Straczynski. “I’ve always dreamed of creating a mini-studio where I can put all of that work under one roof, telling stories that I want to tell and which can be spun up between various platforms: comics that can become TV shows, TV shows that can become movies, and movies that can become comics. With the tremendous recent success of films such as The Avengers, Thor, and the Batman series of films, this feels like the best time to tackle that dream. Best of all, unlike many other startup ventures, I’m not looking to get into these areas, I’m already working in them; now it’s just a matter of taking the next logical step: consolidation.”

Details on J. Michael Straczynski [Courtesy of Studio JMS]:

Straczynski has won multiple awards as writer and producer of hit television series including Babylon 5 and Jeremiah. His contributions to the comic book world include Amazing Spider-Man (with sales during his tenure averaging one million copies per year) and Superman: Earth One (which spent 37 weeks on the New York Times Bestseller List for Graphic Novels). His film credits include Thor, Changeling (for which he received a British Academy Award nomination), Ninja Assassin and Underworld Awakening. Formerly a journalist for The Los Angeles Times and various major magazines, Straczynski has been writing and selling his work since the age of seventeen.
