Sir Paul McCartney’s directorial debut, My Valentine, made its theatrical debut this weekend, screening before showings of The Weinstein Company’s The Intouchables. The black & white three minute short film starring Natalie Portman and Johnny Depp is set to McCartney’s song from his Kisses on the Bottom album.
Stella McCartney came up with the idea for the short film which finds Portman and Depp using sign language to bring the song’s story to life. Depp also performs a guitar solo (which was recorded live) in the short film.
Watch the film:
Commenting on McCartney’s film, TWC Co-Chairman Harvey Weinstein, “What an honor it is to have Paul’s short film directorial debut on the head of The Intouchables showings. Paul and Stella are great old friends. He was the first musician to say yes to perform at the 9/11 concert for New York, which I produced along with our friends John Sykes and Jim Dolan. Stella had a wonderful idea when she thought this song would translate well into a film[…].”
My Valentine was shot on 35MM film, produced by Susanne Preissler, and edited by Paul Martinez.
TV Land announced they’re working on two “cast-contingent” new sitcoms: I’m Not Dead Yet and Brothers-in-Law. “With these pilot orders, TV Land continues down a path to build its own library of original sitcoms that will be paired up with some of the best sitcoms ever made,” stated Larry W. Jones, president, TV Land. “This year, we are expanding beyond the multi-camera format – which has been so successful for us – to include one single-camera project. This is very exciting for TV Land as we continue to grow.”
According to TV Land, I’m Not Dead Yet follows a man who finds out “that he has a rare heart condition that could cause him to die at any moment, and so he decides to finally start speaking his mind and live life to the fullest.” Brothers-in-Law “revolves around the family dynamic between a husband and the eccentric fiancé of his wife’s twin sister. Although the men have nothing in common, the sisters constantly force them to bond.”
I’m Not Dead Yet is based on the Israeli format Zanzuri. Bill Martin and Mike Schiff wrote and executive produced Brothers-in-Law and will serve as showrunners.
