Fox to Debut ‘Take Me Out’ Dating Show This Summer

Take Me Out
Take Me Out premieres June 7, 8:00-9:00 ET/PT on FOX. - Photo © 2012 FOX BROADCASTING

Fox is set to premiere Take Me Out, a new dating show, on June 7th at 8pm. The new series promises to be a fast-paced and hilarious show where “one lucky woman has the chance to win the ultimate dream date with a potential new flame.”

Per Fox, Take Me Out is shot in front of a studio audience and is comprised of four different rounds:

Take Me Out begins with “’The Flirty 30,’ a group of 30 beautiful, single women in search of finding a match made in heaven. Every week, the women meet several brave bachelors who individually must impress them with their looks, personality and sense of humor. Each woman stands at a lighted podium with a switch that controls her fate for a date: if she thinks it’s a match, she keeps her light on; if her attraction has been short-circuited, then it’s lights out and she waits for the next potential Mr. Right.

As the rounds continue and the hopeful mate reveals more and more about himself, the women continue to turn their lights out as they become less and less interested—leaving only the flirty females still fascinated by him. At this point, the seemingly vulnerable gentleman takes control of the game. Now, it’s his chance to eliminate the ladies by turning out the lights of those women he’s just not into. During the last round, the bachelor will pose one final question to the two remaining women—their answer will determine their fate. After he chooses the winner, the two will be whisked away on a romantic fantasy date. Meanwhile, the remaining 29, plus one new woman, return during the next game for another chance at finding the guy who will light up their lives.”

The network has a casting call out for interested single men and women:

Take Me Out is currently looking for charming, spontaneous, fun single women and men with a competitive and outgoing spirit who know how to make a great first impression and are ready to meet their perfect match. Casting and additional information are available online at theconlincompany.com/now-casting/takemeout. Contestants must be 21 years of age to apply.”

Fox hasn’t yet announced the show’s host.

Film Review: ‘American Reunion’

Jason Biggs and Alyson Hannigan in 'American Reunion'

I didn’t go to my 13-year high school reunion (if there even was one). Watching American Reunion, that was probably the right move.

Now sure, it’s likely fair to say there is a decent percentage of movie audiences whose lives have mirrored Jim, Kevin, Oz, Finch, Stifler and the gang (if you don’t know them by name at this point, there’s no point in starting with this one). But just because you were able to bring all of the major characters back, and most of the supporting ones, it doesn’t mean the film is a slam dunk.

The first movie took a look at their high school experience. The second dealt with the changes that happen to those friendships once college gets underway. And the third saw Jim and Michelle get married, wrapping up the maturation process. The series then devolved into terrible direct-to-DVD cashgrabs and here we are now at a reunion. This idea would have worked fine … if there was something new to say.

Each of the four guys is still stuck in the past, dealing with the same problems. Hearing them moan and bitch about everything they’ve moaned and bitched about in 3 previous movies is a chore (no one but Eugene Levy had much to do with the DVD dreck). And if this is supposed to be about them growing up, that’s what the third movie was about … I know I wasn’t the only person who sat through that mediocre pile of celluloid, and am surprised the screenwriters didn’t realize this.

Now, there are some funny bits that help alleviate all of the prattle. Though to no great surprise, most of the comedy comes from Stifler’s politically incorrect antics, buoyed by Levy’s interactions with Stifler’s Mom and John Cho’s take on his originally ancillary character (he helped sustain “MILF” in the common vernacular). The “main” characters just drag the pace down, and Jim’s ability to get caught in awkward situations involving his wang, again and again is almost a necessary evil considering how the franchise started but it feels more desperate than organic.

For guys (and some of the ladies), there are a few bright spots in terms of eye candy. Katrina Bowden and Ali Cobrin are stunning and inject some fresh energy into the mix. If it weren’t for them, this movie could have been in need of a new title: American Flatlining. However, they are there … and there are a few funny moments that break up the monotony … honestly, determining if this is worth recommending is a bit of a toss-up.

If you’re a huge fan and got excited by the notion of another movie in the franchise, I suppose I wouldn’t blame you for checking this out. But if you’re more like me and found little enjoyment past the original film, American Reunion can wait until it hits your preferred streaming service/movie network. It should be seen unedited (if for nothing else than for Cobrin’s lack of clothing), but there’s nothing so hilarious you couldn’t go another 13 years before seeing these characters again, if at all.

GRADE: C-

American Reunion hits theaters on April 6, 2012 and is rated R for crude and sexual content throughout, nudity, language, brief drug use and teen drinking.

First Look: ‘Savages’ Trailer Starring Blake Lively

Universal Pictures has released the first trailer for Oliver Stone’s upcoming thriller Savages starring Taylor Kitsch, Blake Lively, Aaron Johnson, John Travolta, Uma Thurman, Benicio Del Toro, Salma Hayek, Emile Hirsch, and Demian Bichir. Based on the bestselling novel by Don Winslow, Savages hits theaters on July 6, 2012.

The Plot:

Laguna Beach entrepreneurs Ben (Johnson), a peaceful and charitable Buddhist, and his closest friend Chon (Kitsch), a former Navy SEAL and ex-mercenary, run a lucrative, homegrown industry–raising some of the best marijuana ever developed. They also share a one-of-a-kind love with the extraordinary beauty Ophelia (Lively). Life is idyllic in their Southern California town…until the Mexican Baja Cartel decides to move in and demands that the trio partners with them.

When the merciless head of the BC, Elena (Hayek), and her brutal enforcer, Lado (Del Toro), underestimate the unbreakable bond among these three friends, Ben and Chon–with the reluctant, slippery assistance of a dirty DEA agent (Travolta)–wage a seemingly unwinnable war against the cartel. And so begins a series of increasingly vicious ploys and maneuvers in a high-stakes, savage battle of wills.

She accepted Brad’s proposal but unfortunately their relationship ended, along with her dream of moving to Austin with her daughter, Ricki, and starting a family. But Emily, 26, is ready for her luck to change and to bring her the love she so richly deserves. It’s hard to meet men as a single mom, but Emily will have her pick of 25 bachelors when she gets a second opportunity to find love, starring in the eighth edition of The Bachelorette.

Instantly popular with Bachelor fans, Emily’s strength, passion, and Southern charm – as a mother and as a woman – would make anyone happy to make her his wife. She feels incredibly grateful to have found her first love when she was very young, although her fiance, famed NASCAR driver and team owner Ricky Hendrick, tragically died in a plane crash. She then discovered she was pregnant with their child, the apple of her eye – Ricki. Despite not having dated a lot, Emily knows what it’s like to be truly in love. Originally based on the hit UK series of the same name, each episode follows one of America’s most successful business people for one week as they leave behind their lavish lifestyles, sprawling mansions and luxury jets, conceal their true identities, and go to live and volunteer in some of the most impoverished and dangerous neighborhoods in the country.

Surviving on welfare wages, their mission is to discover the most deserving individuals who continually sacrifice everything to help those in need, and ultimately encourage others to do the same. Throughout this incredible, life-changing experience, the Secret Millionaires will attempt to remain undiscovered, coming face to face with extraordinary people battling the odds every day of their lives. On the final day, in an emotional and dramatic climax, they reveal their true identities. Ultimately, the millionaires will each give away a great deal of their own money, changing lives forever and encouraging others to keep giving back.

In each of the eight stand-alone, two-hour episodes, the participants, whose ages range from 19 to 50 years, undergo a transformation not only of their bodies, but of who they are as individuals.

By assuring that the participants have the proper nourishment and exercise movement, Powell provides a fresh perspective to individuals whose lives have become unmanageable because of their weight. He guides each of the eight participants through their transformation process by moving into their homes with their families or loved ones. The upcoming season is filled with remarkable and eye-opening changes, including one participant who loses 50% of his body weight, despite being homeless for most of the year. Another loses a staggering 142 pounds in the first 90 days, while still another will lose a grand total of 281 pounds over the year. In a show of support, one participant’s family challenge themselves to lose 500 pounds together.

There’ll also be many specials this summer, including a salute to our Armed Forces, Bring your Teacher to Wipeout Day, and an All-Star episode of winners and losers. Bully Granted a PG-13 Rating

The MPAA has lowered Bully‘s rating from the restrictive R, which kept it away from the audience most in need of viewing the documentary, to a PG-13. The Weinstein Company and attorneys David Boies and Ted Olson made the announcement of the rating’s victory today, in advance of the film’s April 13th wider release in theaters.

Bully director Lee Hirsch was adamant about retaining a crucial but intense scene of teenager Alex Libby being bullied on a bus throughout this rating’s controversy. And although the MPAA wanted it removed or edited, he never had to compromise with that important scene. Ultimately, what did wind up being cut in order to obtain the PG-13 rating were three uses of the F word. No scenes were removed and the overall impact of the film won’t be lessened from the loss of the F word.

The MPAA has also made an exception to one of its long-standing rules by allowing Bully to be released with the new rating before 90 days, “the length of time their policy states a film must wait to be in theaters after a rating change to avoid confusion or inconvenience for moviegoers.”

“Senator [Chris] Dodd is a hero for championing this cause, and the MPAA showed great courage by not cutting the scene everyone has been fighting to keep,” stated TWC Co-Chairman Harvey Weinstein. “Senator Dodd’s support gives voice to the millions of children who suffer from bullying, and on behalf of TWC, the filmmakers, the families in the film and the millions of children and parents who will now see this film, I thank him for recognizing that this very real issue cannot afford to go unnoticed.”

“I feel completely vindicated with this resolution,” said Hirsch. “While I retain my belief that PG-13 has always been the appropriate rating for this film, as reinforced by Canada’s rating of a PG, we have today scored a victory from the MPAA. The support and guidance we have received throughout this process has been incredible, from the more than half a million people who signed Katy Butler’s petition, to members of Congress, Governor Mike Huckabee and the many celebrities and others who raised their voices to express deeply felt support for a film that can inspire millions. The scene that mattered remains untouched and intact, which is a true sign that we have won this battle. With an array of great partners, a fabulous educator’s guide and extensive online tools, we can now bring this film unhindered, to youth and adults across our country.”

Said National Education Association President Dennis Van Roekel, “The changing of the rating for Bully from R to PG-13 will enable many more young people to see this film. NEA applauds the Motion Picture Association of America and the producers for the PG-13 rating. Every teenage student should have the opportunity to see this powerful documentary about a problem that still haunts our schools. NEA also salutes 17-year-old Katy Butler and the other young activists whose online petition drive led to having the rating for Bully reconsidered.”
