Starring: Shelley Conn, Jason O’Mara and Stephen Lang
Terra Nova Series Premiere: September 26, 2011
Genres: Drama, sci-fi
Running Time: 1 hour
Network: Fox
News: Fox cancels Terra Nova after 1 season

The Synopsis: Terra Nova follows an ordinary family on an incredible journey back in time to prehistoric Earth as a small part of a daring experiment to save the human race. In the year 2149, the world is dying. The planet is overdeveloped and overcrowded, with the majority of plant and animal life extinct. The future of mankind is in jeopardy, and its only hope for survival is in the distant past.

When scientists unexpectedly discovered a fracture in time that made it possible to construct a portal into primeval history, the bold notion was born to resettle humanity in the past – a second chance to rebuild civilization and get it right this time.

The series centers on the Shannon family as they join the Tenth Pilgrimage of settlers to Terra Nova, the first colony established in this beautiful yet foreboding land. Jim Shannon (Jason O’Mara), a devoted father with a checkered past, guides his family through this new world of limitless beauty, mystery and terror. Jim’s wife, Elisabeth (Shelley Conn), is a trauma surgeon and the newest addition to Terra Nova’s medical team. Josh (Landon Liboiron) is their 17-year-old son who is torn to leave life as he knows it behind; upon arriving at the settlement, he finds himself instantly drawn to the beautiful and rule-breaking Skye (Allison Miller). Maddy (Naomi Scott), Josh’s endearingly awkward 15-year-old sister, hopes Terra Nova will give her a chance to reinvent herself. Although Elisabeth’s medical training secured the family a spot on the pilgrimage, a secret involving their five-year-old daughter, Zoe (Alana Mansour), soon endangers their place in this utopia.

Upon the Shannons’ arrival, they are introduced to Commander Nathaniel Taylor (Stephen Lang), the charismatic and heroic first pioneer and leader of the settlement. Taylor warns the travelers that while Terra Nova is a place of new opportunities and fresh beginnings, all is not as idyllic as it initially appears. Along with blue skies, towering waterfalls and lush vegetation, the surrounding terrain is teeming with danger – and not just of the man-eating dinosaur variety. There is also a splinter colony of renegades led by the battle-hardened Mira (Christine Adams), who is vehemently opposed to Taylor and his leadership.

Even more threatening than what lies outside the protective walls of the colony is the chilling possibility that something sinister is happening inside Terra Nova. The Shannons will come to suspect that not everyone on this mission has the same idea of how to best save mankind; in fact, there may be forces intent on destroying this new world before it even begins.

Michelle Williams stars as Marilyn Monroe in the dramatic film My Week with Marilyn hitting theaters on November 4, 2011, and The Weinstein Company has finally released the official trailer showing Williams as the curvaceous movie star. The film tells the story of one week during Monroe’s visit to London in the 1950s to shoot The Prince and the Showgirl when she tried to escape from being a star and just have fun.

The Plot: In the early summer of 1956, 23 year-old Colin Clark (Eddie Redmayne), just down from Oxford and determined to make his way in the film business, worked as a lowly assistant on the set of The Prince and the Showgirl. The film that famously united Sir Laurence Olivier (Kenneth Branagh) and Marilyn Monroe (Michelle Williams), who was also on honeymoon with her new husband, the playwright Aurthur Miller (Dougray Scott).

Nearly 40 years on, his diary account The Prince, the Showgirl and Me was published, but one week was missing and this was published some years later as My Week with Marilyn this is the story of that week. When Arthur Miller leaves England, the coast is clear for Colin to introduce Marilyn to some of the pleasures of British life; an idyllic week in which he escorted a Monroe desperate to get away from her retinue of Hollywood hangers-on and the pressures of work.

Apple Co-Founder Steve Jobs Passes Away

Steve Jobs
Steve Jobs (Photo Provided by Apple)

Steve Jobs changed the way we work, we play, we listen to music, and we watch movies. He was an incredibly talented visionary, and now at the age of 56, Steve Jobs has passed away after a lengthy battle with pancreatic cancer.

From Apple:

“We are deeply saddened to announce that Steve Jobs passed away today.

Steve’s brilliance, passion, and energy were the source of countless innovations that enrich and improve all of our lives. The world is immeasurably better because of Steve.

His greatest love was for his wife, Laurene, and his family. Our hearts go out to them and to all who were touched by his extraordinary gifts.”

And after the news broke of Steve’s death, his family issued this statement:

“Steve died peacefully today surrounded by his family.

In his public life, Steve was known as a visionary; in his private life, he cherished his family. We are thankful to the many people who have shared their wishes and prayers during the last year of Steve’s illness; a website will be provided for those who wish to offer tributes and memories.

We are grateful for the support and kindness of those who share our feelings for Steve. We know many of you will mourn with us, and we ask that you respect our privacy during our time of grief.”

Steve Jobs was forced to take extended leaves of absence due to his health issues, and in August he resigned from Apple.

“August 24, 2011
Letter from Steve Jobs
To the Apple Board of Directors and the Apple Community:

I have always said if there ever came a day when I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple’s CEO, I would be the first to let you know. Unfortunately, that day has come.

I hereby resign as CEO of Apple. I would like to serve, if the Board sees fit, as Chairman of the Board, director and Apple employee.

As far as my successor goes, I strongly recommend that we execute our succession plan and name Tim Cook as CEO of Apple.

I believe Apple’s brightest and most innovative days are ahead of it. And I look forward to watching and contributing to its success in a new role.

I have made some of the best friends of my life at Apple, and I thank you all for the many years of being able to work alongside you.

Steve”

Bill Gates’ statement on the death of Steve Jobs:

“I’m truly saddened to learn of Steve Jobs’ death. Melinda and I extend our sincere condolences to his family and friends and to everyone Steve has touched through his work.

Steve and I first met nearly 30 years ago, and have been colleagues, competitors, and friends over the course of more than half our lives.

The world rarely sees someone who has had the profound impact Steve has had, the effects of which will be felt for many generations to come.

For those of us lucky enough to get to work with him, it’s been an insanely great honor. I will miss Steve immensely.”

The following is a statement from Robert A. Iger, President and CEO, The Walt Disney Company on Steve Jobs’ passing:

“Steve Jobs was a great friend as well as a trusted advisor. His legacy will extend far beyond the products he created or the businesses he built. It will be the millions of people he inspired, the lives he changed, and the culture he defined. Steve was such an ‘original,’ with a thoroughly creative, imaginative mind that defined an era. Despite all he accomplished, it feels like he was just getting started. With his passing the world has lost a rare original, Disney has lost a member of our family, and I have lost a great friend. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife Laurene and his children during this difficult time.”

From John Lasseter, Chief Creative Officer & Ed Catmull, President, Walt Disney and Pixar Animation Studios on Steve Jobs’ passing:

“Steve Jobs was an extraordinary visionary, our very dear friend and the guiding light of the Pixar family. He saw the potential of what Pixar could be before the rest of us, and beyond what anyone ever imagined. Steve took a chance on us and believed in our crazy dream of making computer animated films; the one thing he always said was to simply ‘make it great.’ He is why Pixar turned out the way we did and his strength, integrity and love of life has made us all better people. He will forever be a part of Pixar’s DNA. Our hearts go out to his wife Laurene and their children during this incredibly difficult time.”

The Recording Academy’s statement on Steve Jobs:

“Visionary, pioneer, innovator, genius — all of these words and more have been used to describe the dynamic, passionate, and driven Steve Jobs, who always believed, and often proved, that the impossible was possible. He took technology and turned it into art, becoming a key player and leader in the entertainment world, particularly music, and changing the way we all use the Internet and consume music, TV, movies, books, graphics, and more.

In 2002, Apple Computer, Inc. was a recipient of the Technical GRAMMY Award for contributions of outstanding technical significance to the recording field — which the groundbreaking company continues to achieve to this day. The world has lost an inspiring and creative inventor whose extraordinary legacy will forever remain present in our lives. Our deepest sympathies go out to his family, his friends, and the outstanding employees of Apple who will continue to honor his memory and vision.

Neil Portnow
President/CEO
The Recording Academy”

Our thoughts are with Steve Jobs’ family and friends at this difficult time.

‘The Adventures of Tintin’ Unveils Trailer #2

The Adventures of Tintin
A scene from 'The Adventures of Tintin' - © Paramount Pictures

It has Steven Spielberg as its director, Peter Jackson produced it, and Edgar Wright was one of the writers, and I hate to say it, but I’m still not sold on The Adventures of Tintin. The dead-eyed motion capture animation style is just not something I’ve embraced, and this latest trailer for the upcoming December release still hasn’t won me over. In fact, while I was watching it I kept thinking how good this could have looked had it just been done as a live-action film with Jamie Bell and Daniel Craig.

That said, the new trailer does show off more of the action and explains a little bit more about the story. Too bad there’s not more with Tintin’s faithful dog, Snowy…

Official Synopsis: Based on the internationally beloved and irrepressible characters created by Hergé, the story follows the unquenchably curious young reporter Tintin (Jamie Bell) and his fiercely loyal dog Snowy as they discover a model ship carrying an explosive secret. Drawn into a centuries-old mystery, Tintin finds himself in the sightlines of Ivan Ivanovitch Sakharine (Daniel Craig), a diabolical villain who believes Tintin has stolen a priceless treasure tied to a dastardly pirate named Red Rackham.

But with the help of his dog Snowy, the salty, cantankerous Captain Haddock (Andy Serkis), and the bumbling detectives Thompson & Thomson (Simon Pegg and Nick Frost), Tintin will travel half the world, outwitting and outrunning his enemies in a breathless chase to find the final resting place of The Unicorn, a shipwreck that may hold the key to a vast fortune . . . and an ancient curse.

From the high seas to the sands of North African deserts, every new twist and turn sweeps Tintin and his friends to escalating levels of thrills and peril, proving that when you dare to risk everything, there’s no limit to what you can do.

New ‘Texas Killing Fields’ Video Clips

Based on true events, the crime thriller Texas Killing Fields hits theaters on October 14, 2011 starring Sam Worthington, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Chloe Grace Moretz, and Jessica Chastain. The film follows a homicide detective (Worthington) and his partner, a New York City transplant (Morgan), as they try and track down a serial killer dumping mutilated bodies in an area the locals refer to as ‘the killing fields.’

The Plot: Inspired by the string of real-life unsolved murders in a small Texan town, this tense and haunting thriller follows a local homicide detective (Sam Worthington), and his partner, a transplanted cop from New York City (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) as they track a sadistic serial killer dumping his female victims’ mutilated bodies in a nearby marsh dubbed “The Killing Fields.”

The killer changes the game and begins hunting the detectives, teasing them with possible clues at the crime scenes while always remaining one step ahead. When a familiar local girl (Chloë Grace Moretz) goes missing the detectives find themselves in a race against time to find their killer before she is murdered.

3rd Contestant Voted Off ‘Dancing with the Stars’ Season 13

Dancing with the Stars 13 3rd Elimination
Dancing with the Stars 13 3rd Elimination (Photo Credit: ABC)

What did the third contestant voted off the 13th season of Dancing with the Stars fail to do that left her competitors with an edge when it came time for viewers to vote off another celebrity dancer? She didn’t have a sob story, unlike her fellow Dancing with the Stars celebrity cast members. While the other ‘stars’ had devastating personal events to call upon when asked to dance to a song from their most challenging year (drugs, divorces, deaths, houses burning down, family medical emergencies), the former Hills star Kristin Cavallari’s most challenging year was 2005 when she had to choose between college and starring in a reality TV show.

Cavallari’s lack of a good sob story might have been one of the factors that worked against her this season as she became the third celeb to get eliminated from the dance show.

Speaking to Jimmy Kimmel after her elimination, Cavallari said she was surprised to get the boot after receiving a score of 24 from the judges. “A little bit, to be honest,” admitted Cavallari who seemed to be taking the elimination in stride.
