CBS just announced Ted Danson (best known for his role as retired baseball played/bar owner Sam Malone in Cheers) has signed on to the cast of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation as a series regular. The show will have its 12th season premiere on Wednesday, September 21 (10:00-11:00pm ET/PT) with Danson introduced as the new CSI Supervisor on the grave shift.

According to CBS, Danson’s character worked at a crime lab in Portland and comes to the team as they are still grappling with the professional and personal fallout from last season’s take-down of serial killer Nate Haskell.

“You can create a new character on the page, but until the perfect actor comes along and breathes life into it, it’s just words,” said executive producer Carol Mendelsohn. “We’re very excited Ted Danson came along.”

“From the moment we all started talking about the role, it was clear he couldn’t be more perfect,” said executive producer Don McGill. “Intelligence, wit, warmth, depth of character, and emotion, he brings it all. And now he’ll have to bring latex gloves, too.”

In addition to his new job on CSI, Danson will continue to be part of the cast of HBO’s Bored to Death. And he’ll be seen on the big screen in early 2012 starring in Everybody Loves Whales with Drew Barrymore and John Krasinski (The Office).

John Grisham’s bestselling novel The Firm is heading to the small screen as a weekly TV show on NBC. David Straiton (House) has been tapped to direct the pilot, with Helen Shaver producing.

Filming’s expected to begin this August in Toronto on The Firm starring Josh Lucas (taking on the role Tom Cruise played in the feature film), Juliette Lewis, and Callum Keith Rennie.

Lewis, an Oscar, Golden Globe, and Emmy Award nominated actress, will play Tammy, Mitch’s feisty, sexy receptionist, whose work life is made all the more tumultuous by her on-again, off-again relationship with Mitch’s brother, Ray. With a personality as arresting as her ever-changing hair color, Tammy is leery when Mitch accepts a deal to partner with a top law practice, as she’s not cut out for the conservative culture of a white shoe firm.

Rennie is tapped to play Ray McDeere, Mitch’s charming yet volatile older brother whose work as an investigator in Mitch’s office is uniquely informed by his past stretch in prison for manslaughter. Despite a “highly un-ambitious” nature that stands in stark contrast to his Harvard-grad brother, Ray shares one key quality with Mitch: a loyalty that is unbreakable.

Based on the blockbuster feature film and the best-selling novel of 1991 by world-renowned author Grisham (The Pelican Brief, The Client), The Firm continues the story of attorney Mitchell McDeere (Lucas) who, as a young associate, brought down the prestigious Memphis law firm of Bendini, Lambert & Locke, which operated as a front for the Chicago mob. After a difficult decade, McDeere and his family now emerge from isolation to reclaim their lives and their future — only to find that past dangers are still lurking and new threats are everywhere.

UK pop singer Katy B will release her first album, On a Mission, on September 13, 2011 in the US. The 22-year-old singer’s first single, “Katy on a Mission,” is already available on iTunes, and the album had its debut in the UK in April. On a Mission hit #2 on the charts and is now certified Gold and had three Top 10 singles: “Katy On A Mission,” “Lights On” and “Broken Record.”

In May, Rolling Stone selected Katy as one of their “Artists to Watch” profiling the young singer’s unique musical sound. “Katy B….has quickly made a name for herself as the first lady of UK dance,” says Billboard, while The New York Times states “her soft voice turns a challenge into seduction,” further to that point The Fader describes Katy as “Casually warm and brimming with girlish confidence, she is the embodiment of raving Britain grown up on neo-soul,” Pitchfork agreed by giving On A Mission an 8.1 score saying that Katy is “…a genre-spanning pop singer who isn’t tied down to a single thing.”

From Peckham, South London comes a girl passionate for dance, songwriting, and singing. The first bona fide pop star to emerge from the dubstep and UK funky underground clubs championed by Rinse FM, Katy B encapsulates the sound, spirit, and unrestrained energy of British youth culture right now. Combining the rhythms of a currently resurgent UK underground club scene with a songwriting ear for the vernacular and songs that celebrate being young, staying up far too late raving and falling for the wrong boys, she’s a fresh new pop star.

Katy B made her U.S. live debut in New York City on June 6, 2011 as part of the Steve Madden Summer Music Series and left eventgoers wanting more. CosmoGirl raved of Katy’s recent debut: “Just like Katy Perry and Lady Gaga, Katy B’s songs are so good you won’t be able to get them out of your head. It may not be long before she joins these artists on the top of the charts!”

The Village Voice agreed saying “Katy, whose voice brings to mind freestyle divas as much as it does Aaliyah, soars over the fantastic pop amalgam created by her and her producers, which is stuffed with nods to dubstep, UK garage, funky, and other bits scavenged from the fringes of pop.”

On A Mission Track List:

1. Power On Me
2. Katy On A Mission
3. Why You Always Here
4. Witches Brew
5. Movement
6. Go Away
7. Disappear
8. Broken Record
9. Lights On
10. Easy Please Me
11. Perfect Stranger
12. Hard To Get
