The first footage from Netflix’s 3 Body Problem, based on Liu Cixin’s novels and created by Game of Thrones‘ David Benioff and D.B. Weiss along with True Blood‘s Alexander Woo, debuted during the streaming service’s TUDUM fan event.
3 Body Problem isn’t expected to debut until January 2024.
Jess Hong stars as Jin Cheng, Eiza González plays Auggie Salazar, Jovan Adepo is Saul Durand, Alex Sharp plays Will Downing, John Bradley is Jack Rooney, and Benedict Wong stars as intelligence officer Da Shi. The cast also includes Saamer Usmani as Raj Varma, Liam Cunningham as Thomas Wade, and Rosalind Chao and Zine Tseng as Ye Wenjie.
In addition, Jonathan Pryce and Ben Schnetzer play Mike Evans, Marlo Kelly is Tatiana, Sea Shimooka is Sophon, and Eve Ridley is Follower.
Benioff, Weiss, and Woo serve as executive producers.
Netflix describes the series as exploring humanity’s response to its gravest threat. The description continues: “We meet a young woman whose fateful decision in ’60s China reverberates across space and time to a group of brilliant scientists in the present day. As the laws of nature unravel before their eyes, five former colleagues reunite to confront the greatest threat in humanity’s history.”
