A series based on Martha Wells’ award-winning sci-fi book series The Murderbot Diaries has been greenlit at Apple TV+, with Emmy Award winner Alexander Skarsgård (Big Little Lies) attached to star and executive produce. Oscar nominees Chris and Paul Weitz (About a Boy) created the series and will write, produce, and direct.
Martha Wells will be involved as a consulting producer.
“Murderbot is an action-packed sci-fi series, based on the award-winning books by Wells, about a self-hacking security android who is horrified by human emotion yet drawn to its vulnerable ‘clients,'” reads Apple TV+’s synopsis. “Murderbot must hide its free will and complete a dangerous assignment when all it really wants is to be left alone to watch futuristic soap operas and figure out its place in the universe.”
The 10-episode first season comes from Paramount Television Studios and has Andrew Miano, David S. Goyer, and Keith Levine on board as executive producers.
