Pablo tells Ash that Kelly not only took his bike, but also left with the Necronomicon which means Ash has to change his plans. They follow Kelly to her dad’s house and whilst in en route Pablo and Ash are attacked by their boss from Value Mart in the form of a deadite. Ash manages to kill him by stabbing him with a broken bottle about 50 times, spraying large amounts of blood all over the interior of the car and Pablo. The scene then shifts to Amanda Fisher (Jill Marie Jones) who seems to be investigating the disturbances and getting closer to finding Ash.
When Ash and Pablo get to Kelly’s house, they burst through the door and see Kelly, her father, and her mother all having a normal conversation in the living room. And so begins the best Evil Dead version of Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner possible. Ash and Pablo sit done with Kelly’s family and Ash is not convinced that Kelly’s mother is not a deadite; they can take human form after all. Throughout dinner he makes rude comments, trying to force her to change to deadite form. When nothing works he punches her in the face, upsetting Kelly and her father. But the punch works and Kelly’s mother finally turns and immediately kills Kelly’s father. A fight ensues and Ash dispatches her with the help of Pablo. In the aftermath of the bloody battle, Kelly decides to join Ash in his fight against the deadites.
With Sam Raimi not directing this episode, I felt it was the true test of whether Ash vs Evil Dead would work. Fortunately, it did – passing with flying colors. It was over-the-top, fun, and there was some real scares to be had. If you are not watching this show (and you like horror comedies), there’s something seriously wrong with you.
