Three-time Emmy winner Claire Danes (The Beast in Me, Homeland) has landed a new Netflix project, signing on to star in Lovesick. The romantic drama was given a straight-to-series order, and Danes will be involved as an executive producer.

Lovesick is based on Rona Tamir, Tal Granit, and Sharon Maymon’s Keshet series. Sarah Treem (The Affair) created the Netflix series and serves as a writer and executive producer.

“I’m thrilled to get to tell this story with the genius, Claire Danes,” stated Sarah Treem. “We’ve been looking for something to do together for a very long time and this character, Annika, is perhaps a mix of both of our wildest dreams.”

Keshet Studios’ Avi Nir and Keren Shahar executive produce, along with Peter Traugott. Netflix hasn’t announced a target start-of-production date.

Netflix offers this synopsis: Annika (Danes), a renowned breast cancer surgeon, has just received her own cancer diagnosis. Her new patient, Nate, is a promising politician. The series explores their interwoven lives, delving into themes of love, sex, illness, death, family, children, health, medicine, and the meaning of life—all while Annika is simultaneously undergoing breast cancer treatment.

“To get to tell a story about all the things keeping me up at night anyway — life, death, children, love, middle age, courage, science, and faith — is an extraordinary opportunity I don’t take lightly in these turbulent times,” Treem said, commenting on the story.

Claire Danes’ recent projects include Full Circle, Fleishman Is In Trouble, and The Essex Serpent.
