‘Cruel Summer’ Season 2 Trailer Shows Off New Cast and Murder Mystery

The trailer for Freeform’s Cruel Summer teases the new murder at the heart of season two. It also introduces the teenagers who pledge to be ride-or-die friends…even when the “die” portion of the equation might actually turn out to be taken literally.

Season one starred Olivia Holt, Chiara Aurelia, Michael Landes, Froy Gutierrez, Harley Quinn Smith, Allius Barnes, Blake Lee, and Brooklyn Sudano. Sadie Stanley, Lexi Underwood, Griffin Gluck, KaDee Strickland, Lisa Yamada, and Sean Blakemore star in season two, with Paul Adelstein and Braeden De La Garza appearing in recurring roles.

The anthology series was created by Bert V. Royal, and Elle Triedman serves as showrunner. Triedman, Bill Purple, Tia Napolitano, and Iron Ocean Productions’ Jessica Biel and Michelle Purple serve as executive producers.

The first season debuted in April 2021 and wrapped up in June 2021. Season two will premiere on June 5, 2023 at 9pm ET/PT with the release of the first two episodes. New episodes will air in the show’s normal 10pm ET/PT timeslot.

The Plot:

Set in an idyllic waterfront town in the Pacific Northwest, the next chapter of Cruel Summer follows the rise and fall of an intense teenage friendship. Approaching the story from three different timelines surrounding Y2K, the season twists and turns as it tracks the early friendship between Megan, Isabella, and Megan’s best friend Luke, the love triangle that blossomed, and the mystery that would impact all of their lives going forward.
