The cheese factor’s high in the first trailer for Fox’s new Baywatch series, confirming they’re going to stick closely to the full body shots and slo-mo running of the original series. Fox is targeting a midseason premiere.

The revamped version of the ’89 series stars Stephen Amell, Jessica Belkin, Hassie Harrison, Shay Mitchell, Thaddeus LaGrone, Noah Beck, and Brooks Nader. Recurring cast members include David Chokachi, reprising his role as Cody Madison, and Livvy Dunne.

Fox offers this synopsis of the primetime drama: The new Baywatch finds wild-child legacy character Hobie Buchannon (Amell) serving as a Baywatch captain, following in the footsteps of his legendary father, Mitch. Hobie’s world is turned upside down when his daughter Charlie Vale (Belkin) shows up on his doorstep eager to carry on the Buchannon family legacy.”

The network promises this new take “will celebrate the franchise’s enduring legacy while re-energizing it for today’s global audience. Fans can expect all the adrenaline-fueled rescues, tangled relationships, complicated chemistry and beachside heroics that defined the original — now with a new cast, contemporary trappings, tensions and challenges, and a renewed mission to save lives along Southern California’s coastline.”

Matt Nix (Burn Notice) is the showrunner and executive producer. Additional executive producers include McG, Michael Berk, Greg Bonann, Doug Schwartz, Dante Di Loreto, and Mike Horowitz.
