HBO Renews Steve Carell’s ‘Rooster’ for Season 2 After Record Ratings

Steve Carell and HBO have a hit on their hands with Rooster. Four episodes into the 10-episode season, the series has been renewed for season two after averaging 5.8 million viewers. Rooster‘s posting ratings that have it on track to be HBO’s most watched new comedy in 10+ years.

In addition to Steve Carell, season one stars Charly Clive, Danielle Deadwyler, Phil Dunster, John C. McGinley, and Lauren Tsai. Bill Lawrence and Matt Tarses created the series and serve as co-showrunners.

“We are so grateful to Warner Bros. Television and HBO for being such great partners and to Casey [Bloys], Amy [Gravitt], and Channing [Dungey] for giving us the opportunity to keep making this show with Steve and our amazing cast,” stated Bill Lawrence, co-showrunner, executive producer, and writer. “It’s been a career highlight for both of us, but more for Matt than me.”

New episodes air on Sundays at 10pm ET/PT.

Commenting on the renewal, Amy Gravitt, EVP, HBO Programming, Head of HBO & HBO Max Comedy Series, said, “It’s been heartening to feel the audience embrace Rooster, as we did when we first saw Steve, Bill, and Matt bring this character to life. Executive producers include Bill Lawrence, Jeff Ingold, Liza Katzer, Matt Tarses, Jonathan Krisel, Barbie Adler, Annie Mebane, David Stassen, Anthony King, David Hyman, and Steve Carell.

Season one premiered on March 8, 2026 and currently sits at 88% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes.
