HBO did not confirm when we can expect a second season of House of the Dragon, but the network did announce production is now underway on season two. Filming is taking place at Leavesden Studios in the United Kingdom, with Ryan Condal returning as showrunner.

Condal co-created the series with author George R.R. Martin. Both serve as executive producers along with Sara Hess, Alan Taylor, Melissa Bernstein, Kevin de la Noy, Loni Peristere, and Vince Gerardis.

House of the Dragon has returned. We are thrilled to be shooting again with members of our original family as well as new talents on both sides of the camera,” said Condal. “All your favorite characters will soon be conspiring at the council tables, marching with their armies, and riding their dragons into battle. We can’t wait to share what we have in store.”

Season two’s cast includes Matt Smith as Prince Daemon Targaryen, Olivia Cooke as Alicent Hightower, Emma D’Arcy as Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen, Eve Best as Rhaenys Targaryen, and Steve Toussaint Lord Coryls Velaryon. Fabien Frankel plays Ser Criston Cole, Ewan Mitchell is Aemond Targaryen, Tom Glynn-Carney is Aegon Targaryen, Sonoya Mizuno is Mysaria, and Rhys Ifans is Otto Hightower.

Harry Collett plays Jacaerys Velaryon, Bethany Antonia is Baela Targaryen, Phoebe Campbell is Rhaena Targaryen, Phia Saban is Helaena Targaryen, Jefferson Hall is Lord Jason Lannister, and Matthew Needham is Larys Strong.

Season two will continue the tradition established with season one and will participate in the WBD Access Directors Shadows program. Emerging directors B Welby and Ebele Tate will be mentored by the season two crew.

House of the Dragon‘s series premiere pulled in the biggest audience in HBO’s new original series history. 20+ million viewers tuned in to check out this prequel set 200 years before Game of Thrones and focusing on House Targaryen (and its dragons).
