Judith Hill had The Voice coaches fighting like cats and dogs to nab her for their team, and Adam Levine even stood on his chair while furiously clapping at the end of her performance. Levine gave Hill’s rendition of “What a Girl Wants” high praise, saying he was ready to do pretty much anything to get her on his team. And fortunately for Levine, Hill ultimately chose him to be her The Voice coach.

Previously, Hill’s gorgeous voice earned her the job of singing a duet with Michael Jackson on his This is It tour and she’d rehearsed with him for the two months leading up to his untimely death. And while offers flooded in following her performance of “Heal the World” at Michael Jackson’s funeral, she felt it would have been in poor taste to cash in on that performance and declined the opportunities presented at the time.

Hill chose to wait for The Voice to work on her career, however, she’ll also be seen in another project this summer. Hitting theaters on June 14, 2013, Twenty Feet From Stardom shines the spotlight on backup singers who support some of the music world’s biggest names. Directed by Morgan Neville, the documentary includes interviews with Bruce Springsteen, Stevie Wonder, Mick Jagger, and Sting, and features singers Hill, Darlene Love, Merry Clayton, Lisa Fischer, and Tata Vega.

The Details:

Millions know their voices, but no one knows their names. In his compelling new film Twenty Feet From Stardom, award-winning director Morgan Neville shines a spotlight on the untold true story of the backup singers behind some of the greatest musical legends of the 21st century. Triumphant and heartbreaking in equal measure, the film is both a tribute to the unsung voices who brought shape and style to popular music and a reflection on the conflicts, sacrifices, and rewards of a career spent harmonizing with others.

These gifted artists span a range of styles, genres, and eras of popular music, but each has a uniquely fascinating and personal story to share of life spent in the shadows of superstardom.
