HBO announced that production is now underway on Lanterns, based on the popular DC Comics property Green Lantern. Filming is taking place on the Warner Bros. lot in Burbank.

“The series follows new recruit John Stewart and Lantern legend Hal Jordan, two intergalactic cops drawn into a dark, earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heartland,” reads HBO’s synopsis. Aaron Pierre (Rebel Ridge) stars as John Stewart and Kyle Chandler (Godzilla vs. Kong) plays Hal Jordan.

The comic book-inspired series also stars Kelly Macdonald, Garret Dillahunt, Poorna Jagannathan, and Ulrich Thomsen. Chris Mundy serves as showrunner, writer, and executive producer.

“From the start, our driving force has been to deliver a layered drama – rooted in nuanced storytelling and rich world building – that balances tension and mystery with honest, authentic emotion,” said Mundy. “The goal is to create something that feels timeless and grounded without sacrificing the magic of the source material.”

Additional executive producers include Damon Lindelof, James Gunn, Peter Safran, Tom King, Ron Schmidt, and James Hawes. Mundy, Lindelof, and King wrote the pilot, and Hawes directed the first two episodes. Stephen Williams, Geeta Vasant Patel, and Alik Sakharov will also direct season one episodes.
