Kyle Chandler has boarded HBO’s Lanterns and will star as Hal Jordan. The announcement comes hot on the heels of Aaron Pierre’s casting as John Stewart.
“The series follows new recruit John Stewart and Lantern legend Hal Jordan, two intergalactic cops drawn into a dark, earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heartland,” reads HBO’s synopsis.
Lanterns is based on the DC comic Green Lantern, with Chris Mundy (Ozark, True Detective: Night Country), Emmy winner Damon Lindelof (Watchmen), and Eisner Award winner Tom King (Mister Miracle) writing the series. James Hawes is directing episodes one and two. Mundy, Lindelof, King, and Hawes are the executive producers.
Kyle Chandler’s credits include Slumberland, Godzilla vs. Kong, Godzilla: King of the Monsters, Super Pumped, The Midnight Sky, and Game Night. Chandler earned the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series Emmy for his performance as Coach Eric Taylor in Friday Night Lights, and was nominated twice in that same category for Bloodline.
Chandler recently completed work on Back in Action directed by Seth Gordon and starring Cameron Diaz and Jamie Foxx.
“We are elated to be reuniting with both Chris Mundy and Damon Lindelof as they partner with Tom for this fresh take on DC’s Green Lantern. As part of James and Peter’s vision for the DC Universe, this first new live-action series will mark an exciting new era,” stated Casey Bloys, Chairman and CEO, HBO and Max Content.
