Matthew McConaughey Delivers a Touching Golden Globe Acceptance Speech

Matthew McConaughey recalled how when he was a kid his mother always told him to go outside and play rather than stay inside and watch TV. Her advice: “Don’t watch somebody on TV do it for you, get out there and do it for yourself.” McConaughey said, “Now this many years later I’m like, ‘That’s a pretty good recipe for an actor.’ Go be the subject of whatever you’re doing.”

McConaughey cemented his position as a Best Actor Oscar contender with his win in the Best Actor – Motion Picture, Drama category at the 2014 Golden Globes held Sunday, January 12th and hosted by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. This was McConaughey’s first Golden Globe nomination, earning the attention of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association with his performance in Dallas Buyers Club.
