Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson to Star in Apple TV+ Comedy Series

True Detective co-stars and off-screen friends Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson are confirmed to star in an untitled comedy greenlit at Apple TV+. McConaughey and Harrelson will also executive produce the series along with the show’s creator, Emmy Award winner David West Read (Schitt’s Creek).

The brief synopsis released by Apple TV+ describes the 10-episode half-hour comedy as “a heartfelt odd couple love story revolving around the strange and beautiful bond between Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson. Matthew and Woody’s friendship is tested when their combined families attempt to live together on Matthew’s ranch in Texas.”

Additional executive producers include Bill Bost, Jeremy Plager, and Skydance Television’s David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Matt Thunell. Skydance Television’s producing the series for Apple TV+.

McConaughey and Harrelson starred in the first season of HBO’s True Detective, earning Emmy and Screen Actors Guild Awards nominations for their performances as detectives Rust Cohle and Martin Hart, respectively. They also appeared together in 1999’s Edtv directed by Ron Howard, and in the independent comedy film Surfer, Dude, released in 2008.

Matthew McConaughey won an Oscar as well as Critics Choice and Screen Actors Guild awards for his starring role in Dallas Buyers Club. McConaughey was recently seen in The Dark Tower, White Boy Rick, Serenity, and The Gentlemen.

Woody Harrelson has been nominated for three Oscars for his work in The People vs Larry Flynt, The Messenger, and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. Harrelson’s currently seen in theaters starring in Champions, directed by Bobby Farrelly.
