HBO Unveils Trailer for ‘My Brilliant Friend’s Final Season

HBO’s shared the official trailer for My Brilliant Friend‘s fourth and final season. Renewed in 2022, the fourth season will premiere on September 9, 2024 at 9pm ET/PT. New episodes will air on Mondays.

Season four is based on the fourth book of Elena Ferrante’s quadrilogy, My Brilliant Friend: The Story Of The Lost Child.

My Brilliant Friend follows Elena Greco and the most important friend in her life, Raffaella ‘Lila’ Cerullo. After meeting as children in 1950s Naples, their story goes on to cover over 60 years, exploring the mystery of Lila – Elena’s brilliant best friend and, in a way, her worst enemy,” reads HBO’s synopsis. “The fourth installment of the saga, titled ‘Story of the Lost Child,’ delves into the adult lives of Elena and Lila. They find themselves entangled in the turmoil of Italy in the late 1980s, nearing the end of decades of political violence and social unrest. Amid motherhood and career demands, amid betrayals, threats, disappearances, and natural disasters, Elena and Lila once again reside in the same neighborhood.”

Season four stars Alba Rohrwacher as Elena Greco/Lenù, Irene Maiorino as Raffaella Cerullo/Lila, Fabrizio Gifuni as Nino Sarratorea, Stefano Dionisi as Franco Mari, and Anna Rita Vitolo as Immacolata. Pier Giorgio Bellocchio plays Pietro Airota, Daria Deflorian is Adele Airota, Lino Musella is Marcello Solara, Eduardo Scarpetta is Pasquale Peluso, Edoardo Pesce is Michele Solara, and Sonia Bergamasco is Maria Rosa Airota.

Author Elena Ferrante, Francesco Piccolo, Laura Paolucci, and Saverio Costanzo wrote the screenplays, with Laura Bispuri directing. Executive producers include Paolucci, Saverio Costanzo, Paolo Sorrentino, Jennifer Schuur, Elena Recchia, and Guido De Laurentiis.
