‘Nightflyers’ Video: George R.R. Martin Says It’s Psycho in Space

Syfy’s upcoming series Nightflyers, based on George R.R. Martin’s 1980 novella, just released a short first look video from the horror series. The one minute video features author Martin describing Nightflyers as a “haunted house story on a starship. It’s Psycho in space.”

The video shows off very brief shots inside the spaceship, but doesn’t give away much of the plot.

Eoin Macken (The Night Shift) stars as Karl D’Branin, Sam Strike (EastEnders) plays Thale, and Maya Eshet (Teen Wolf) is Lommie. Angus Sampson (Fargo) stars as Rowan, Jodie Turner-Smith (The Last Ship) plays Melantha Jhirl, Gretchen Mol (Boardwalk Empire) is Dr. Agatha Matheson, David Ajala (Fast & Furious 6) is Roy Eris, Phillip Rhys (Survivors) is Murphy, and Brían F. O’Byrne (Million Dollar Baby) plays Auggie.

Daniel Cerone recently exited the series as showrunner and Jeff Buhler was announced as taking over the task of guiding the series. Buhler adapted Martin’s book for the series and was already involved as an executive producer. Gene Klein (Suits), David Bartis (Mr. and Mrs. Smith), Doug Liman (Suits), Alison Rosenzweig (Jacob’s Ladder), Michael Gaeta (Jacob’s Ladder), Lloyd Ivan Miller, and Alice P. Neuhauser are also executive producing. Mike Cahill (Another Earth) and Andrew McCarthy (Orange is the New Black) are both attached as directors.

Syfy hasn’t officially announced a premiere date for Nightflyers, however the network has indicated it will be part of their primetime schedule next fall.

The Plot: Nightflyers follows eight maverick scientists and a powerful telepath who embark on an expedition to the edge of our solar system aboard The Nightflyer – a ship with a small tightknit crew and a reclusive captain – in the hope of making contact with alien life. But when terrifying and violent events begin to take place they start to question each other – and surviving the journey proves harder than anyone thought.
